Analysis Of The Identity Of Migrant Workers And Its Influencing Factors

With the development of urbanization,more and more migrants earn a living in cities;thus,a particular social group named "Labor Migrants" has formed.The urbanization and society transformation has been considerably influenced by them as well.However,migrant workers have instinct cognition about personal identity;and the dilemma of "Hometown been departed while city cannot be melted into" has arisen;which affects the process of new-type urbanization,the construction of new socialist countryside,and the formation of harmonious society.Therefore,it is significant and urgent to study on the personal identity of labor migrants.Based on quantitative analysis method,the data of 6 cities in Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone,and the data of the national floating population health monitoring survey,and theories of Social Identity,Social Memory and Social Situational theory,the paper presents situations of migrants personal identity combined with the local population attitude from the perspective of themselves,analyzes the influential factors and proposes suggestions on policy.Investigation result suggests that little migrants have clear cognition of personal identity,some of them renounce their original identity of being peasantry,most of them have instinct cognition of personal identity.The regression analysis shows that the following 10 factors affect migrants' cognition of personal identity:age,education,marital status,jobs,income satisfaction,social security level,locals contact,city hierarchy,life satisfaction and position in city.The hypothesis on local memory has not been verified.In addition,several demographic factors(age,education,marital status)have explanatory power to the issue of migrants' personal identity.Therefore,the paper attempts to explore the way helping migrants getting out of dilemma from several aspects,including government system,environment and perspective of migrants.In particular,Breaking the institutional obstacle to provide a fair and high-quality social security system;Enhancing individual cognition,to dispel self identity dilemma;Eliminating discrimination culture to create a fair and people-oriented social atmosphere.In this way,migrants can have a clear cognition of personal identity,melt into and live s better life in the city.
