Case Study Of Left-behind Children Who Commit Suicide By Drinking Pesticide In Bijie:A Social Security Perspective

With the acceleration of urbanization and economic development in China,the surplus rural labor is gradually increasing,and more people hunt for jobs in city.One of the most evident consequences is the emergence of left-behind children,followed by the problem of left-behind children in rural areas.The social security for left-behind children is a hot issue.Left-behind children lack support and resources in daily life,education and other aspects.Moreover,they are faced with the plight of survival and development.In June 2015,four left-behind children died of drug suicide at home in Bijie,Guizhou Province.After the tragedy happened,public opinion and public concern again focused on the survival and development of left-behind children.Issues including“dualistic urban-rural economy structure”,“Poverty”,“the ignorance of government”,“irresponsible parents” have aroused public attention.Most psychologists are concerned about the breakdown of the relationship between left-behind children and their families.They think that left-behind experiences result in children's lack of high-quality love.The problems of traditional education lead to the inferiority of left-behind children.They advocate “building a responsive nation,society and family”.Sociologists also believe that the migration of labor in the process of urbanization has completely broken the traditional model of family relations,which leads left-behind children to live in relatives and community systems that are “unsymmetrical”.In addition,they proposed establishing a “comprehensive social welfare and service system”.These analyses have rationality,but they also lack the recognition of children's social rights and social protection.Based on the case study of the suicide of left-behind children in Bijie,Guizhou province from social security perspective,this paper analyzes the causes and social impacts of the left-behind children's suicide in Bijie as well as the main responsibilities and problems of left-behind children's perspective.The research intends to find out the existing problems of left-behind children's social security in Bijie and put forward corresponding measures according to the current situation.The research will provide reference for the establishment of left-behind children's social security system in Guizhou and create a healthy living environment and protection for left-behind children.Chapter one introduces the research background,purpose and significance of the topic,the research status of the left-behind children at home and abroad,the overview of related theories,research ideas and methods;chapter two contains the status quo of left-behind children and the reasons for their occurrence,and analyzes the suicide of left-behind children in Bijie;chapter three introduces the suicide of left-behind children in Bijie in detail,then analyzes the causes;chapter four analyzes the main responsibilities of improving social security of left-behind children;chapter five analyzes the problems of social security in detail;chapter six sums up the lesson of the suicide of left-behind children in Bijie.First,relevant policies and systems should be strengthened and social security mechanisms should be improved.Second,importance should be attached to the support the bond between schools and communities and establish family support system.Finally,protection system of left-behind children should be innovated to support survival and development.
