Till the latter stage of urbanization, constructed area has accounted for an increasing share of the total area of urban construction land. The urban spatial development pattern has also changed into renewal of urban built-up area in this stage. As a result of this intense change, residents' perceptions and emotion responses to the space and places their activities carried out have become increasingly important. With the popularity of the mobile information technology and the birth of time-space big data, obtaining and analyzing the information about residents' activities, such as which places they were in and how they felt at that time, becomes extremely easy. This study takes Nanjing city as an example, grabs the sign-in users' micro-blog data with point of interest information and extracts information about the places, emotions and location of their activities from these data. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)The results of spatial distribution analysis of residents' emotion values and the spatial agglomeration analysis of different types of emotions present spatial distribution characteristics of residents' emotions from different perspectives. The spatial distribution characteristics of residents' emotion values and the emotion value structures in different types of urban built places show a lot of different. Some of these characteristics even subvert the existing simple judgments. This shows that the relevance between residents' emotions and built environment is complex. In order to obtain reliable and applicable results,a systematic analysis framework needs to be introduced.(2)The big data from micro-blog show great advantage in presenting overall characteristics of large numbers of residents.Through quantitative analysis of residents' emotions in the geographical space, residents' common emotion differences based on the built environment differences could be visually displayed in the physical urban space.Through interpretation of these features, the differences of urban built environment could be commonly recognized.(3)Based on emotion analysis, the optimization plans of urban built area could be proposed as follows:First, roughly evaluate the built quality of planning area based on residents' emotion value structure analysis. And then, put forward planning proposals for every type of site place or built element based on comparative analysis of residents' emotions and built environment in the same type of site places.Last but not the least, gain further recognition about the types of site places or built elements that should be optimized as a whole on the basis of the residents' emotion distribution characteristics in different types of site places inside the planning region.(4)The importance of this study lies in that it is the first empirical study of residents'emotions and their relations with the built environment via big data.On top of this, establishes a new urban planning practice framework on the basis of residents'emotion analysis.
