People with intellectual disabilities are significantly lower than the normal in intelligence and have difficulties in adaptive behavior. The intellectual deficiency and discrimination from other people prevent intellectual disabilities from participating in normal social life, which means they should receive special training in order to fit into the world. With the development of community service model for intellectual disabled people, their self-care ability and professional ability have been paid much attention to, while their social adaptive capacity has not receive enough attention. Therefore, social adaptive capacity construction of people with intellectual disabilities is of great importance.This study takes the social work practice in X sunshine home of Wuchang district as an example and tries to intervene intellectual disabilities social adaptive capacity construction with group work. After evaluating the needs of intellectual disabilities in social adaptive capacity construction by means of documentary method, interview and participatory observation, this study design nine period group work and pay attention to people” personalities, behaviors and group situation to develop positive motivation to the group,as a result, to improve the social adaptive capacity of intellectual disabilities with social work skills. First, Group work can be feasible in social adaptive capacity improvement and can be promoted to intellectual disabilities” recovery. Second, group work can play a better role in social adaptive capacity improvement and is good for intellectual disabilities to fit into the world. Third, the theory can be a good guide in intellectual disabilities recovery service.
