A Research About The Influence To The Sense Of Relative Deprivation From Identity

In the process of social transformation, the reform of the social system and the economic system, has brought about huge changes in the social structure, social class and pattern of social interests and. When people compared with others in the aspect of interests, would generate a sense of relative deprivation If found themselves at a disadvantage. The sense of relative deprivation has become a widespread social psychological phenomenon in present society.In this paper, the author put the identity as the research perspective and put the identity multiplicity as theory basis, and researches the sense of relative deprivation of the veterans in X district who had participated in the war with the analytical framework including identity cognition and identity compare on both horizontal and vertical dimensions.Identity multiplicity is the theory basis of this research about the sense of relative deprivation whose perspective is identity. Individuals have multiple identities and different identities have different significance. Under the influence of rational and situations, the individual selects specific identities and arranges identity's order. Identity multiplicity and identity selecting provide a theoretical basis for the analytical framework which includes identity cognition and identity compare. To research the sense of relative deprivation with the analytical framework which includes identity cognition and identity compare, we analysis the identity cognition and comparison not only between self-group and others-group, but also between historical identity and current s identity, ideal identity and real identity. Identity cognition is the premise and foundation of identity comparisons, and influences the sense of relative deprivation indirectly. Correspondingly, identity comparisons influence the formation and intension of relative deprivation sense directly.On the basis of cognitive identity, the comparisons of multiple identities on the vertical and horizontal two dimensions from war veterans influence the formation and intension of relative deprivation sense. That self-identity is at a disadvantage relative to other's identity is the direct and main reason for causing war veterans' sense of relative deprivation. The gap between historical identity and current identity not only influences the formation of relative deprivation sense, but intensify the sense of relative deprivation come from horizontal identity comparison. Although it influences the formation of relative deprivation sense, the comparison between ideal identity and real identity have a intensive contribution more than formation mostly. Horizontal identity comparison has a dual reinforcement to the sense of relative deprivation.
