The specialized knowledge of teachers of English plays a decisive role in their professional development and the effect of their classroom teaching,and the core of this specialized knowledge of teachers of English is the pedagogical content knowledge(PCK).Therefore in recent years it has become a hotpot of the researches on English education in our country,and its study provides a new perspective for the researchers of English education and teaching.The researches of PCK at home and abroad focus on the teaching of science,while the studies of PCK for the teaching of liberal arts is relatively rare;more of the studies of PCK for teachers of English are theoretical studies,and even the few empirical studies among them are largely case studies;at the same time,the researches of PCK for the teachers of senior high school English have not involved its status quo.Therefore this study,adopting methods of literature research,questionnaire survey,classroom observation and interview,conducted a survey of PCK development and divergence of the senior high school teachers of English in the ordinary counties in order to provide suggestions for promotion of PCK on the part of these high school teachers of English.Through analysis of the survey data,this study arrives at the main conclusions as follows:(1)On the whole among all PCK,senior high school teachers of English in the ordinary counties have done the best in grasping the knowledge of teaching purpose,but the worst in mastering the knowledge of teaching strategies,especially those who have taught English for6-10 years and those for 11-20 years.(2)For the three dimensions of knowledge of students,teaching content knowledge and content organization knowledge they do not score high among all the six dimensions of PCK,especially the teachers of English with 1-5 years' teaching experience,which indicates that senior high school teachers of English in the ordinary counties have not commanded the knowledge of the three dimensions as they are expected;(3)The mastery of six-dimension-PCK on the part of the teachers of English with 1-5years' teaching experience is quite different from that of the teachers of English with 6-10years' and 11-20 years' teaching experience,but in general there is no difference in the mastery of six-dimension-PCK on the part of the teachers of English with 6-10 years' and11-20 years' teaching experience,which demonstrates the convergence and consistency of the two groups.This study concretely analyzes the problems found in the survey of PCK on the part of the senior high school teachers of English in the ordinary counties and puts forward some corresponding suggestions for the improvement in terms of six-dimension-PCK,hoping to promote the PCK development of senior high school teachers of English in the ordinary counties.
