According to the National Higher Engineering Education Professional Accreditation Expert Committee Regulations, the core of professional accreditation is to build the quality monitoring system of engineering education, promote the reform of engineering education and further improve the quality of engineering education. Higher engineering education professional accreditation is an important part of our country's engineer quality assurance system. As our country officially becomes a member of the Washington Accord, our country starts to transform from the follower of international higher education development trend to the leader. Our country's engineering education quality standard realizes international substantial equivalence, engineering education quality guarantee system receives international recognition, engineering education quality reaches the international standard, China's higher education really becomes the international rule maker. Higher engineering education professional accreditation shoulders heavy responsibilities to promote the engineering education reform and improve the engineering education quality guarantee system, and the quality of the engineering education to a large extent determines the overall quality of China's higher education, thus studying the theory and practice of higher engineering education professional accreditation is an important task to improve the cultivation quality of engineering education talents.This article conducts empirical research on the colleges and universities of our country which participate in higher engineering education professional accreditation in recent years, analyzes the background of the birth and development of higher engineering education professional certification, the basic situation of accreditation system and the existing problems at present stage. It selects three engineering colleges and universities which participate in higher engineering education professional accreditation and conducts empirical research, analyzes three majors from accreditation application, school's self-assessment and submission of self-assessment report, on-site examination and other procedures, summarizes the practical experience in participating in higher engineering education professional certification. Through empirical research, it explores the problem of theory and practice of higher engineering education professional accreditation in China, puts forward that according to the requirements of the Washington Accord, we should take the student as the center, focus on the standard based on students' learning results and user participation in the accreditation evaluation, emphasize two characteristics of effective docking of industrial circles and education circles; Accurately understand the core and principle of the universal standard of engineering certification, write self-evaluation reports in accordance with the specification, and carry out accreditation in strict accordance with the engineering accreditation procedure.
