Vocabulary is one of the basic elements of language,and the students’ mastery of the English vocabulary has a direct impact on their English proficiency.The Ministry of Education promulgated the Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards in 2011,which put forward higher requirements for English vocabulary teaching in primary school.The author tries to apply the game teaching approach in the vocabulary teaching in primary school with the aim of improving the efficiency of English vocabulary teaching in primary school and finding out a scientific and feasible teaching method which is suitable for the psychological development of primary school students.Game teaching approach is a kind of teaching method that by the way of the game teachers make the students happily learn and master teaching content in a pleasant and relaxed environment,through collective activities,or even the fierce competition.Therefore,the author introduces the game teaching approach into the primary school English classroom teaching,which not only makes the students learn English knowledge,but also improves the students’ learning interest and cultivates students’ ability in many aspects.This study is based on the theory of multiple intelligence,constructivism theory,theory of children cognitive development and humanism theory.The author takes 83 students as the experiment subjects who are from Class One and Class Two of Grade Six of Songshan Elementary School in Dalian City.The author makes a comparison analysis of the data with the application of game teaching approach to the vocabulary teaching.In order to figure out whether the game teaching approach has a positive effect on the English vocabulary teaching for the students in elementary school,this paper tries to answer the following three questions:1)Whether students are more interested in English after using game teaching approach inEnglish vocabulary teaching in primary school?2)Can the application of game teaching approach in English vocabulary teaching improve students’ performance in English vocabulary learning?3)What are the attitudes of students and teachers towards game teaching approach in English vocabulary teaching?The experiment lasted for more than three months which is from September 2015 to December 2015.The experimental class and the control class are taught by the same teacher.The author adopted game teaching approach in experimental class and traditional teachingmethod in control class.The research is carried out by means of pre-test,post-test,questionnaires and interviews.The results prove that game teaching approach has a certain role in promoting the learners’ English vocabulary in primary school.Game teaching approach can improve students’ vocabulary score and stimulate their learning interest.Both English teachers and most of students show positive attitudes towards the game teaching approach.At last,the author discussed the major findings of the research,implications,limitations of the study and suggestions for future study.The author hopes that this study can help teachers in primary school English teaching,and bring some enlightenment for the future English teaching,so the English teaching in primary school can achieve better results in the future.
