By using the data of SERU (Student Experience in Research University)survey,this paper discusses the relationship between the disciplines and student involvement. The study found that the most effective way to reflect the differences of students' involvement in H University is to divide disciplines into pure disciplines and application disciplines. Students of application disciplines tend to involve more than students of pure disciplines. Application discipline students in learning challenges, participation, interaction between teachers and students on students score were higher than pure disciplines, applied disciplines students receive academic challenge more frequently, and they are more frequent interaction with the teachers both inside and outside the class, and more actively in class activities, but we can also see that the application discipline students have more negative behavior than students of pure disciplines.Further regression analysis found that:for both pure disciplines and applied disciplines, students background characteristics and universities environment have an impact on student involvement. Discipline is a very important factor. Disciplines influence the students embodies more in negative behavior. As for economic factor, students whose family economic condition are good learn investment will be relatively higher. For university goal, there are not significantly influence in student involvement. For the quality of professional education, professional education teachers' level, professional education teaching effect, professional education teachers' input all have significant positive impact on the academic challenge and participation.The study also found that student's background characteristic and colleges environment have less effect on pure science students, while they have a much more influence on the applied disciplines students. The level of professional teachers?teaching involvement and teaching effects influence the learning involvement of the both disciplines students greatly.The results of the study enlightens us:respect the difference on different disciplines students; Improve teachers' professional education and teaching devotion; Provide much more academic help for students from low-income families, of high level and female students.
