As far as Chinese primary school students who take English as their second language are concerned, most of the students didn't find the right way of learning English, which can be reflected from the common dilemma they have encountered where even though they have picked up English learning at a very early stage, they still end up in confusion and mess.Tracing the root cause behind, new words handling has been detected as the major challenge hindering students' learning progress, which has further led to the incompetency in terms of simple speaking and listening ability and English reading ability, causing English writing ability to turn into an even more difficult area nearly impossible to be touched upon.Phonics teaching method is through learning the correlation between letter and the pronunciation and enabling further decoding and spelling out those unfamiliar words, that is "seeing to read, listening to write",which can help pupils cultivate their English writing ability via accumulating vocabulary and source materials from reading. With comparative teaching method, this paper has proved through empirical teaching activities that phonics will promote the entry-level English learning and English reading for primary school students from multiple aspects. Moreover, this paper also confirms that teaching activity does not stand for knowledge delivery on the blending skills of phonics.Instead,it should combine rhythm training, listening comprehension as well as the basic pronunciation rules of phonics together.Through this research, following conclusions are generated:1.Phonics will improve students' phonological awareness;2.Phonics will increase students' sound identification ability;3.Phonics will enhance students' blending and spelling ability;4.Phonics will reinforce students' reading ability.
