The Study Of Social Casework Intervening In Interpersonal Difficulties Of The Old In Welfare House

According to the sixth census, Chinese who are at least 60 years old or older have reached the number of 178 million, which takes up 13.26 percent of all the Chinese people. Due to the rapid increase of elder people, 21 centry will become an era with serious aging problem. With the fact that the size of family is becoming smaller and smaller, the burden of raising the elders has become heavier and heavier, many elders have to spend the rest of their lives in nursing homes. For what is worse, many nursing homes in communities cannot provide the elders a familiar and cozy environment for them to live in. That can lead to some terrible consequences like elders' mental and social communicating problems.Nursing homes shouldn't just take care of elders' daily life, however, they should pay more attention to care for elders' mental states, and deal with elders' mental problems as soon as possible. This study focuses on the communication difficulties for elders in nursing homes, and expands the social work for elders to elders' mental area, which will help to release the intense relationships among an elder and others. In the meanwhile, elders' socializing ability can also be increased. In this study, an old lady named Mrs. Li living in Wuchang public nursing home is selected to be the object. This study is designed to find out about the effect of using social work to work out the problems lie in elders' communicating and socializing abilities. At the beginning of this study, an investigation and an interview for Mrs. Li was carried out in order to find out about the presentation of communicating problems and the causes for these problems. Then, based on the results, two methods was applied to Mrs. Li to work out the problems. One is psychotherapy, the other is looking back into her life. Two main stages in this study are composed of these two methods. In stage one, psychotherapy is used to help Mrs. Li to realize her communicating problem naturally. In this way, Mrs. Li can reflect her ways to deal with people. In stage two, Mrs. Li's way of thinking should be changed a lot, and she can stand in other people's shoes to deal with problems after she thinks back into her life. From this study, we can see that some of the main communicating problems have been solved. Using social work to fix elders' problems is an effective method. However, the mental adjustment of elders and the emotional supporting from others still need to be deal with. That's because a long-term observation is needed to solve these problems. Such as the relationship between an elder and a social worker, the relationship among an elder and others, etc.
