Community Social Work Intervention In The Exploratory Research Of Elder-drifts’ Urban Adaptability

With the development of social economic, human movement increase because of the process of urbanization and trend of population aging. To live with or raise their children, the elder-drifters, which to be a member of this trend start the movement too. When the increasing elder-drifters confront the new city surrounding,the problem of physical, psychological and social become more and more severer. However, the research for the elder-drifters is few, so the problems of their living conditions, social welfare, provide for the aged, social adaptation will need a urgent attention.This thesis talks about the elder-drifters which purpose is to live with or raise their children but whose census register is not local. According to the community observation, in-depth interview and analyze of information. We use some empirical research ways to study the elder-drifters of Community J in Nanjing. Focus on the 10 elder-drifters of Community J, the main point is their originates, living condition, social adaptation.The study found that the main origin of elder-drifters is urbanization and two-child policy. Many problems will appear when they are faced with the new surrounding, such as low economic level, different concept for raising children, the estrangement of relation between generations, social relationships limited,lack of belongingness.By analyzing the interview of the elder-drifters, we found the problems they suffer is affected by personal, families, communities and social institution. According to the result,I point out the way and strategy for our community worker how to help the elder-drifters. According to the community development model of intervention, first,we can build such a community integration of crossing different region and communities.Second,We could also build a "professional social workers + Community Grid members of social organizations" service model pluralistic participation. Third, promoting the elder- drift’s profiling service and to strengthen the family neighborhood cultural.Forth, reconstruct the support networks. Fifth, it is important to integrate and foster social organizations. Sixth, the construction of professional social workers is necessary. Also、there are other ways to improve the status of urban social adaptation of old drift family to enhance their well-being in the city social life.
