| Today’s society is a learning society. People who only have certain ability to learn can they be more adaptable to the development of the society now. The autonomous learning ability has vital meaning for individuals’ life-long development. New English Curriculum also requires English teachers to change their education and teaching idea, to pay attention to instruct the students’ English learning strategies, and to optimize the student’s study methods, so that the students’ autonomous learning ability can be eventually improved and the sustainable development of students can be realized, and a good foundation for students’ life-long learning and lifelong education can be laid. However,looking from the current situation of English teaching in junior middle school of our country, we can see that the teacher-centered phenomenon still exists, and English teachers and students’ haven’t paid enough attention to autonomous learning, and the students’ ability of autonomous learning is insufficient.The study has firstly introduced the relevant theories of autonomous learning, which including basic concept, features, realistic meaning and theoretical foundations of autonomous learning. Then the study has introduced the influenced factors of internal and external of students’ autonomous learning. Internal factors include cognitive structure,motivation, emotional state, interests, learning strategies, etc.; External factors are the relationship between teachers and students, family education,social culture, etc. After analyzing these factors, the writer has selected the grade-nine students in Ningxia XXX Junior Middle School as the research object, and began the investigation with the method of questionnaire. Later,through the analysis of the results and discussion, the study has found the main problems in the process of students’ autonomous learning, and based on these, the writer has tentatively put forward some basic approaches of cultivating junior middle school students’ English autonomous learning ability. The approaches mainly conclude four aspects:(1) Cultivating students’ learning interest, arousing students’ English learning motivation;(2)Strengthening the learning strategy training and guidance to students;(3)Converting the teachers and students’ ideas about education and teaching, raising the students’ consciousness of being the subject in learning;(4) Creating the "autonomous learning" education environment. This paper aims at enhancing teachers and students to be aware of the importance of learning autonomy, and helping English teachers to strengthen the cultivation of the students’ English autonomous learning ability, so as to promote students’ comprehensive development. |
