With the promotion of Hanban, teaching Chinese to foreigners has witnessed a new era. Originally, teachers who teach Chinese to foreigners drew lessons from methods of teaching English as a second language such as Translation Approach, Audio-Lingual Approach, Natural Approach, Situational Approach and Task-based Language Teaching Approach. In recent years, with the increasing number of young Chinese learners, teachers began to seek new method to cultivate their learning interests. Game teaching method is widely used in Chinese lessons because it is full of entertainment, interaction and encouragement. Currently, although there are indeed some researches about game teaching method in the field of teaching Chinese to foreigners, researches based on Great Britain's Chinese lessons are rather scarce. This paper will undertake a research especially for game teaching method in Britain's Chinese lessons. In chapter one, the author introduced the development of game teaching ideas, and showed the research methodology of this paper. Chapter two is about the definitions and theoretical basis of game teaching method. Chapter three is about the necessity and feasibility of using game teaching method in Britain's Chinese lessons. Chapter four is about design principles and application strategies. In chapter five, the author listed the actual games played in Chinese lessons, and made a comparative analysis in Hedingham School and Sixth Form where the author had taught from Sep.2014 to Jun. 2015.The paper is based on the experience of teaching Chinese in Hedingham School and Sixth Form in Essex County. Through the questionnaire survey for Chinese teachers in Britain, the author found that most of teachers considered that game teaching method was positive, but they still had problems when designing and applying a new game. Consequently, the author put forward principles in designing a game and strategies when applying a game. At last, the author used the comparative analysis of actual games played in Chinese lessons to prove that game teaching method was helpful for Chinese learning. The author hopes that this study can provide reference for other teachers who teach Chinese to English students, and arouse more concern for teaching Chinese to English students in academic field.
