Headteacher is fully in charge of students’ thinking and learning,coordinate with education teaching work of all the teachers,and arrange overall class daily routine work,Also,he is a communication bond among class,school,family and the society.Moreover,he is an organizer,a leader,as well as a educator.Headtacher is very significant for healthy growth of students,and plays an important leading role in the school.Headteacher’s working object is developmental children in primary school,which makes a big responsibility and occupational burnout and may affect teaching quality.Therefore,the problem of headteachers’ occupational burnout must timely be paid attention to,and positive and effective mitigation countermeasures must be made,which is benefit for headteacher’s professional growth and elementary school students’ healthy growth.Research on teachers’ job burnout in China started relatively late.Although in recent years researchers have focused on this area,there is little research results on headteachers’ burnout,except for little research work on urban and rural areas and different age group of teacher burnout.Based on the author’s own experience and observation,as well as literatures at home and abroad,the present study was looking forward to know the status of primary school headteachers’ job burnout and reveal the causes of this situation.180 primary school headteachers as research samples in Laixi area were recruited in the present study.Questionnaires and interview methods were used to get the status of headteachers’ job burnout.This work is benefit for headteacher to reduce job burnout feeling,raise positive management countermeasures,and contribute to the healthy development of elementary education cause in China.It was found that elementary school headteacher’s job burnout showed a moderate level in general,among which low achievement feeling dimension was at a lower level of job burnout,personalized dimension showed a moderate level,and emotional exhaustion dimension showed a high level of job burnout feeling.Gender,education background,working experience of headteachers,workplace,and teaching grade would not affect primary school headteachers’ job burnout feeling.It showed significant relationships with headteachers’ age,salary,title,and engagement in headteachers’ work.Combined the results of questionnaires and interview survey,the present study found there were a lot of teachers,who did not want to be headteachers,because of low paid and high load of this job nature.The intensity of headteachers’ work,high responsibility and great burden accountability,high risk and pressure,various performance appraisal,low social expectation,which does not match headtheachers’ treatment.And this is the essential cause of elementary school headtachers’ burnout in Laixi area.The headteachers self regulation was helpful to relieve job burnout feeling.On the basis of the present study,several management countermeasures and constructive advices for reducing headteachers’ job burnout were suggested as following: administrative department of education should improve primary school headteachers’ wage,treatment,and social status;School manager should create harmony working atmosphere,and set up incentive evaluation mechanism for headteachers;Headtechers themselves should adjust their working attitude,improve working skills,enlarge working achievements,and learn to self-regulation.
