Since the late 80 s of the 20 th century,the United States,European countries have conducted the education reform project and proposed “returning to Engineering Practice” activities.In this context,it becomes the top priority of strengthen the awareness of engineering practice,professional skills training and practical ability.This paper uses literature analysis,comparative studies and case study method to investigate the status and problems of practical teaching about undergraduate engineering education in Chinese Universities and it also learned from advanced experiences of foreign universities to construct practical teaching model about undergraduate engineering education in Chinese universities with enlightenment.Firstly,the paper analyses theoretical basis of constructing practical teaching model about undergraduate engineering education,the Large-scale Engineering,Marxist view of practice and Total Engineering Education.Secondly,reviewing the development history of undergraduate engineering education in our country,the paper analyses the current status and problems of practical teaching about undergraduate engineering education in Chinese Universities and then finds out the reasons of problems;Thirdly,by analyzing the development history of higher engineering education in United States,Britain,Germany and their successful practices in practical teaching model about undergraduate engineering education,the paper studies the cases of Massachusetts Institute of Technology,Harvey Mudd College,University of Liverpool,Aston University,Technical University of Munich and RWTH Aachen University,based on the national conditions of our country and learned from foreign advanced ideas and successful practices of practical teaching about undergraduate engineering education to construct the practical teaching model about undergraduate engineering education in Chinese universities.Finally,the paper analyzes the necessity and feasibility of learning from foreign experience,constructs the practical teaching model from the aspects of the teaching philosophy,conditions of guarantee practice teaching,practice teaching contents and evaluation system.The paper proposes a practice teaching system of“one main line,two channels and three stages”,combines different practice teaching methods such as inquiry learning,problem-based learning,project-based learning and case-based teaching to different stages of learning and different courses,makes suggestions for establishing the team of teachers of“counselors-school teachers-business teachers”,recommends that universities and companies jointly establish the project libraries,allows enterprises to participate in the development of students training programs and other patterns to deepen the school-enterprise cooperation,carries out appropriate practical aspects of different stages and makes suggestions for formatting the evaluation system,including evaluation method,evaluation subject,feedback aspect in order to provide references for the practical teaching reform about undergraduate engineering education in our country,improve the quality of undergraduate engineering education and train high-level engineers.
