With the increasing globalization,English has become an international language.English teachers' professional quality directly affects the quality of the English language education.The promotion of New Curriculum in Chinese high schools and vigorous support from the government has brought about opportunities and challenges to English teachers.However,the professional qualities of English teachers in high schools are not very satisfactory.In view of this situation,I have conducted a survey,taking 71 English teachers in a middle school in Dongying as the informants.Two questionnaires were issued to investigate the current situation of English teachers' reflective teaching and professional development.20.teachers were selected to participate in an interview in order to understand the specific application of reflective teaching and teacher professional development,and to reflect on the impact of reflective teaching on the professional development of teachers;A case study was focused on a good English teacher with the aim to understand how a novice teacher has turned to be an expert.There are two questionnaires,reflective teaching questionnaire and professional development of teachers questionnaire.The former includes teachers' basic information analysis,teachers' teaching information analysis and implementation of reflective teaching.The latter includes professional emotion cognition or professional attitudes,professional knowledge,;teacher professional development and its obstacles and solutions,etc.Through the survey,we can find that the implementation of reflective teaching and professional development should be improved.Teachers,schools,students and education department should work together to improve the professional development.Conclusions can be drawn:(1)Reflective teaching does promote the professional development of English teachers in senior high school.(2)The influence of reflective teaching on the professional development of English teachers in senior high school can be summarized as follows:Reflective teaching improves the consciousness of professional development.Reflection combines theory with practice and develops professional competence.Reflective teaching makes teachers become lifelong learners and researchers.Reflective teaching enriches teachers' professional emotion.Reflective teaching improves teachers' professional knowledge structure.From the situation in Dongying No.X middle school,we can see the general picture of the reflective teaching and teachers' professional development in Dongying.Based on the survey,this thesis discusses the factors that hinder teachers' reflective teaching,and put forward some suggestions for improvement.For teachers:It includes three dimensions:(1)the knowledge and experience of teachers;(2)teachers'beliefs or attitudes;(3)the ability of teachers.For schools:(1)Leaders set a good example.(2)Specify a reasonable system of teacher evaluation.(3)Improve teachers' professional happiness.(4)Organize the training inside and outside the school.(5)Advocate scientific research.For education department:(1)Create conditions to improve the professional quality of teachers.(2)Reform the current principal assessment system,not evaluating the principal by enrollment rate.(3)Strengthen the construction of teachers,balance the organization structure.This study has some implications for reflective teaching and English teachers' professional development in high schools.It is hoped that this topic will draw more attention from researchers in relevant fields and more research will be done in the future.
