Under the concepts of New Curriculum Reform,the teachers are supposed to act as creators and developers of the curriculum instead of the loyal operators,whereas,the students as active participants in teaching instead of onlookers and containers of knowledge.This role transformation requires teachers to have the ability of reflecting on their teaching practice and become reflective teachers.Reflective teaching is a conduct that requires teachers to combine teachers' “learning how to teach” with students' “learning how to study”.It is also a process of reflecting their teaching practice to promote the rationality of the teaching practice.Through issuing questionnaires and conducting interviews,this research found that most of the English teachers in senior high schools are lacking in reflective awareness and they are,meanwhile,apparently poor in reflective ability.Considering the existing problems and theactual situation,the writer proposed three aspects of countermeasures and suggestions based on the reflective teaching theory: “to cultivate reflective awareness and ability”,“to be Action Researchers” and “to create an reflective atmosphere”.Moreover,a four-month practical research was conducted to verify the measures and approaches.The results show that reflective teaching is an effective way to improve the English teaching quality in senior high school,and to stimulate the English teachers' professional development;and also an effective way to enhance the students' ability of active learning,autonomous learning and comprehensive development.
