Reading,as one of the basic language skills,is becoming increasingly important.English reading is not only the main means to learn English,but also an important way to learn language points and to enlarge vocabulary.In the traditional class of reading at senior high art school,the phenomenon of teacher-centered class is extremely common.The teacher attaches great importance to the language explanation,while the students rarely have opportunities to express their opinions.The reading class is boring.Hence,the students gradually lose their interest in English.With the further development of the the new curriculum reform,reforming the method of traditional class is extremely critical.Guided Learning Plan refers to a teaching method in which the learning plan is the carrier,guidance is the method,students’ independent study is the principle and teachers and students work together to complete the teaching task.This study aims at testifying the effects of this teaching method at senior high art school.The author conducted an empirical study.The following questions are addressed in the study:(1)Can the Guided Learning Plan improve students’ reading achievements ?(2)What are the effects of Guilded Learning Plan on students’ reading interest?(3)What are the students’ attitudes towards the Guided Learning Plan? Why?The study was conducted in Senior Two at Danyang teacher training school.Before the experiment,students of the two classes took an examination organized by the teaching and research section.The author analyzed the data by using SPSS22.0,which shows no significant difference between the two classes.After one semester,students of the two classes took the examination again.Besides,the students of experimental class took the questionnaires and single interviews.Through careful analysis,the writer finds three important points:Firstly,Guided Learning Plan can improve students’ reading achievements and their overall English proficiency.Secondly,Guided Learning Plan can stimulate students’ reading interest,which greatly improves their reading initiative and enthusiasm.What’s more,students begin to prefer reading after class.Thirdly,Guided Learning Plan is popular with most students because it can realize the dominant position of students,change the way of students’ learning,reduce students’ pressure after class,excavate students’ potential ability and stimulate students’ reading interest.It is the author’s hope that this study can guide the English reading teaching at senior high art school and offer an operational program for the teachers of such schools.
