English is playing a more and more important role in modern societyand it has become one of the most important subjects in school. Englishreading, as one of the basic language skills, is the core of English teachingThe large percent that English reading comprehension takes up in NMETalso can indicates its importance.That means, much higher requirements forEnglish reading teaching have been put forward in school.However, the traditional English reading class is teacher-centered. Theteachers spend most time in explaining the language points and neglect thecultivation of students’ reading interest. Students are just passive receivers.who can’t actively participate in the reading process. Gradually, they losetheir interest in reading and their reading ability is very low. Therefore, theauthor try to apply the guided learning plan teaching to English readingclass in senior high school to improve their reading ability, and cultivatetheir reading interest.This thesis is aimed to prove applying the guided learning planteaching to English reading class can improve the students’ reading abilityand arouse their interest by means of doing questionnaire based oninvestigations and doing a teaching experiment, which includes120subjectsof two classes. The experiment lasted for a term, during the experiment process, many instruments were used such as questionnaire, pre-test andpost-test.Through careful collection and analysis,we can get the results thatstudents in experimental class where guided-learning plan teaching wasadopted for a term can improve their reading ability significantly.The resultalso indicates that guided-learning plan teaching is an effective way ofteaching reading.This thesis consists of five chapters.Chapter one is a detailedintroduction, including the importance of English and English reading insenior high school. It provides background for the research.Chapter two is aliterature review where the definition of learning plan and guided learningplan teaching, the theoretical bases and related research of guided learningplan is described in detail.Chapter three makes an elaboration on teachingexperiment and give an sample teaching case to show how to apply theguided learning plan teaching to teaching reading. Chapter four is the dataanalysis and discussion. Chapter five is the conclusion of the thesis, whichincludes the major findings and limitations of the experiment.
