Objective: by studying on the ethnic minority students' confidence,this research is to discuss the situation and influencing factors as well as to provide suggestions for enhancing the students' confidence.Methods: the qualitative interview and quantitative questionnaires are adopted to analyze 1291 students from Xinjiang Medical University.The interviews materials are categorized by content analysis method,and the quantitative materials are analyzed with SPSS 17.0,single element of measurement data is analyzed by ANOVA,and multi-element data is analyzed by MLR,enumeration data is analyzed by Chi-squared test.Results: 1.qualitative research results: the factors influencing the students' confidence include: personal,social,university and financial element.2.quantitative research results: 1)There is no statistical difference in the confidence and source of students,region,family type,family size,gender and subject(P>0.05),but has difference in registration place,only-child or not,BMI,age,entrance exam identity,parents' education background and social support(P<0.05);multi-factor analysis results show that age,gender,family function,social support,entrance exam identity,father's education background are the factors.2)by comparing the Xinjiang minority students who study out of Xinjiang and the overseas students,there is no statistical difference in the family function but in the social support.Single factor analysis indicate that,for ethnics students studying in other cities,the statistical difference presents in the gender,registration place,father and mother's education background,no other factors;for international students,the statistical difference reflect on the family size,study element and subject but others.Self-confidence dimensions analysis on different source of students reveals that there is statistical difference in the inner status,study and others elements,while no statistical difference in the social factor.The multi-factor analysis presents that entrance exam identity,father's education background,utilization of support are the influencing factors;for those international students are gender,family size,subjective support and utilization of support.Conclusion: for minority students studying in Xinjiang or outside of it,there is no difference in the confidence,and minority students performance well in study and daily life,it is better to enhance students' confidence by being cared more,creating a harmonious family environment,parents' education background,social support.For the oversea stunts studying in Xinjiang,they need improve themselves,others' concerning,family support and social support to enhance their confidence.
