Because of the circumstance,it is inevitable to be influenced by mother language when learning a second language.The influence includes positive transfer and negative transfer.Over the past years,lots of studies on negative transfer have been done.However,very little has been done on positive transfer.Vocabulary is one of the most important components in all languages,and the pronunciation is very important for vocabulary.Because similarities exist between different languages,our mother language must play a positive role in English phonetics.Therefore,this paper emphasizes the positive role which Chinese pinyin plays in acquiring English phonetics.It also points out that teachers should guide students to use phonics to spell and memorize words,which will help them to improve their ability to learn vocabulary.The positive role of mother language in second language acquisition has always been getting recognized.Linguists abroad and home have found that Chinese and English have a lot in common,such as syntax,vocabulary,phonetics and so on.They have also found that teachers use mother language to help students to learn English in the practical English teaching.The positive transfer of mother language has been used in different aspects of English teaching and learning.They emphasize that using the students'original language cognitive ability can promote their understanding of the target language,which helps to improve the teaching effects.Because when students learn a second language,they will think and achieve the purpose of foreign language learning with the help of their mother language unconsciously.This paper will use the transfer theory,the inter-language theory and the second language acquisition theory to study:1.In what ways does Chinese pinyin have a positive influence in English vocabulary learning in middle school?2.How much does Chinese pinyin and phonics benefit junior high school students in the acquisition of English phonetics and word memorization?And the essay will use quantitative and qualitative methods,questionnaires,interviews and experiments to make a exploration detailedly.In this experiment,the author selected the subjects from two classes of Junior 1 in Dawa Xinjian Middle School.They were designed randomly as an experimental class(class 1)and a controlled class(class 2).The total number of the subjects was 91.In the pre-tests,the teachers tested the accuracy of pronouncing and memorizing words of the students from both the experimental class and the control class in limited time.In the experimental group,the author changed the teaching method,teaching English phonetics with the help of Chinese pinyin,guiding the students to use phonics to spell and memorize words and combining the pronunciation with the spelling.However,in the control group,the teacher still used the traditional teaching method.After 16 weeks,the author tested the two groups again and used the data statistics software to make statistical analysis.We concluded that Chinese pinyin can play a positive role in English phonetics learning and benefit students to master pronunciation and memorize words with the help of phonics.
