During Spring and Autumn Period,there were many wars all the year among the principalities who were eager to achieving their power and wealth,which made ancient China goes into disorganized social transition period.Confucius considered that what contributed to the great chaos was that people deviated from benevolence,rather than weren't restricted by regulation.Confucius tried to persuade the rulers to implement benevolence to modify the human mind and make the disorganized world become united and peaceful.However,no one supported him.Therefore,Confucius continued his ideas on education.Poetry pedagogy had been a basis curriculum in Confucius education practice.Regarding poetry pedagogy of Confucius,Chinese language teaching theory has not paid enough attention to it.Even though there are many researches about literature and education theories,most of them are explaining the evolution and implication of The Book of Poetry or summarizing Confucius' poem teaching theory and claims.The study about how Confucius teaching poem is very less.In this paper,it is deemed that poetry is the basis curriculum in Confucian benevolence educational practice.It was called:be stimulated by the Odes,take your stand through the help of the rites and be perfected by music.This paper introduces Confucius' poem teaching from this point and four basic conclusions are summarized as the following:First,when spreading benevolence and cultivating the benevolent,Confucius paid much attention to cultivating students' sympathy which made people love others.And Confucius was against empty talk and believed that the true stories could stimulate students' sympathy so he chose the poetry as the induction course.Second,Confucius selected 305 poems from the more than 3,000 official and folk poems,most of which described people's miseries they suffered.Understanding others'miseries deeply is the premise of stimulating students' sympathy.Human misery is the basic contents of poetry teaching.Third,in the process of poem teaching,Confucius focused on the students' comprehension of the people's sufferings so that students could have sympathy on other people's lives,and made the world united and peaceful.The effective of poetry teaching can be tested by music.Fourth,the poetry pedagogy of Confucius is of great importance of reflecting and modifying Chinese language teaching and strengthening the relationship between Chinese language teaching and real life,for which Confucius cultivated students' sympathy through the real life to eradicate the gap among people.
