Teacher talk is the language carrier of classroom teaching.As a vital part of teacher talk,teacher feedback refers to the verbal response of the teacher to the language form or content of the students' answers,and it is usually made up of verbal feedback and non verbal feedback.This paper mainly studies verbal feedback.Until recently in the colleges and high schools,there are many studies on teachers' verbal feedback in many aspects,but there are few in Junior High Schools,so this paper selects teacher feedback in the Junior High School English classroom teaching as the research subject.Through classroom observation and classroom recording and questionnaire,the study aims to find out what the situation of the use of teacher feedback in Junior High School English classroom teaching at present is,and what teachers' and students' attitudes toward and preferences for teacher feedback are,from which the author hopes to get some implication on how to improve the quality of teacher feedback and to put forward some corresponding suggestions.Through the study,the main findings of this paper are as follows.Firstly,although in the current Junior High School English classroom teaching,the frequency of the use of single feedback is still higher than the frequency of the use of mixed feedback,the gap between the two has been significantly reduced.Single feedback includes thirteen kinds of feedback.Mixed feedback includes eight kinds of feedback.The diversity of the feedback mode has a positive effect on increasing students' language input and promoting students' learning.The use of simple positive feedback and repetition in mixed feedback is more common in the classroom teaching.Secondly,both teachers and students think that teacher feedback plays an important role in the classroom teaching and promoting students' learning,but there are differences between their attitudes toward and preferences for teacher feedback.According to the results of the research,this paper draws some meaningful enlightenment and puts forward the following suggestions to improve the quality of teacher feedback in Junior High School English classroom teaching.Firstly,attach great importance to teacher feedback in the classroom teaching.Secondly,pay attention to the quantity and quality of the use of teacher feedback.Thirdly,constantly improve and flexibly use various feedbacks.Fourthly,understand the students' preference and meet the needs of them.Fifthly,use action research to reflect on your feedback.
