| Information technology has created favorable conditions for students’ individual learning and autonomous learning together with a new learning model to meet the needs of society.The intelligent speech system is a new type of online tool for English learning which fits in the learning needs of students in junior high schools but has been applied for a short period in China.This study aims to figure out whether the intelligent speech system has positive effects on students’ English learning in junior high schools.It tries to address three research questions:(1)Can the intelligent speech system influence the students’ habits of English learning in junior high schools?(2)Can the intelligent speech system enhance students’ motivation of English learning in junior high schools?(3)Can the intelligent speech system improve students’ comprehensive English language competence in junior high schools?The study involved 222 students from Grade 6 in Yantai No.3 Junior High School.Documentary method,data method,questionnaire method and interview method are used in the study.The research instruments involve the questionnaire,interview,test papers and the software SPSS 22.0.Besides collecting quantitative data through handing out paper questionnaires,pretesting and post testing,the researcher also collected qualitative data by interviewing six students and three teachers using the intelligent speech system in Yantai No.3 Junior High School.Results show that the intelligent speech system can improve the students’ learning habits,for the online learning system has a strict timely supervision for students’ learning.And the interesting ways of interaction for the students’ learning activities can not only help them build good habits of learning English initiatively but also enhance the motivation of English learning.In addition,results also show that the intelligent speech system can improve students’ comprehensive language competence in English learning especially in speaking and listening. |
