From the 1870s to now,Chinese language teaching has gone through nearly five decades of development in Australia.The rapid development of Chinese language in Australia is closely related to the active participation of bilateral political and economic exchanges between China and Australia,the development of China and the language needs of Australian multiculturalism.Researching Chinese teaching in Australia,and finding the characteristics and problems,can have a better understanding of the local Chinese teaching needs,and promote the popularization of Chinese in Australia.In recent years,as part of Chinese teaching,Chinese cultural workshop has not been given full attention in Australia,the development lag behind language teaching.Studying the general situation of Chinese cultural workshop in Australia can push forward the quality improvement and comprehensive development of Chinese teaching in South Australia and meet the needs of local Chinese culture perception.Based on Chinese volunteer teacher experience in South Australia,the author summarizes and analyzes Chinese cultural workshop in primary and secondary schools in South Australia,including teaching objects,teaching goals,teachers,teaching content and characteristics,and points out the problems of Chinese cultural workshop,such as pertinence is not strong,educational attributes are not obvious,teaching arrangements and content are lack of systematization,lacking of curriculum standards and evaluation system,as well as lacking of teachers.Through questionnaire and research,the author gives suggestions to upgrade and optimize the cultural workshop,for example:emphasize the teaching attribute of Chinese cultural workshop,strengthen the pertinence of cultural workshop,pay attention to the training of qualified teachers in cultural workshop and systematize Chinese cultural workshop.It is hoped that the analysis and suggestions will contribute to the sustainable development of cultural workshop,and will provide advice for the running of Chinese cultural workshop in other countries.This thesis is divided into five chapters,and the main part are the second,third and forth chapters.Others are the introduction and conclusion.The first chapter is the introduction.It mainly introduces the research background,research content and methods.And literature review is done in two angles as Chinese cultural workshop and Chinese teaching and cultural class in primary and secondary schools in South Australia.The second chapter is about the general situation of Chinese cultural workshop in primary and secondary schools in South Australia.It discusses the necessity and feasibility of the opening of Chinese cultural workshop,and then introduces the Chinese cultural workshop in South Australia from the aspects of teaching object,aims,content,methods and process.On this basis,this thesis analyzes the characteristics of cultural workshop and points out problems in Chinese cultural workshop in South Australia.The third chapter investigates teachers and students who have had Chinese cultural workshop in primary and secondary schools and gets feedback on workshop satisfaction,learning methods,the choice of cultural symbols and the tendency of the curriculum.Finally,this thesis reflect on the specific situation of South Australia.In the forth chapter,according to the problems in the second chapter and the results of the third chapter,the thesis puts forward some suggestions for Chinese cultural workshop in primary and secondary schools in South Australia and asks for the cooperation of all concerned,like teachers,Department for Education and Child Development and Hanban.Hope they can solve the current problem and improve the Chinese cultural workshop and get better teaching effect.Chapter V is the conclusion,it reviews the whole study process,summarizes this thesis and points out innovation and shortcomings.At last,it provides suggestions for the follow-up study.
