Research On The Ski Venue Of Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games Developing And Utilizing After The Games

On 31 July 2015,Beijing,together with Zhangjiakou,won the right to host the 2022 Olympic Winter Games.As the most influential sports event in the world,the Games will surely promote the development of China’s winter sports.To this end,the CPC Central Committee with General Secretary Xi Jinping as its core,and the people’s governments at all levels have provided tremendous investment and support for the Games.With a view to putting the Olympic venues into service for the public after the Games and maximising their value,the author has proposed proactive recommendations and raised the prospect of building a sustainable operational mode for such venues.Most studies on winter sports venues in China are focused on the existing operational problems with the existing venues and,on that basis,provide relevant countermeasures and suggestions.Their recommended operational modes,however,are more or less the same,that is,a commercialised,multi-targeted operational mode with multiple operators.Taking the opportunity of the upcoming Olympic Winter Games in 2022,this dissertation presented a systematic analysis of China’s winter sports industry and the post-Games venue management approaches,and provided systematic research on the post-Games utilisation,operation,and development of Beijing 2022 venues based on the operational mode of the Olympic Games and that of domestic and international major snow sports venues.Using the methods of literature review and case study,the dissertation systematically analysed the operational modes of well-known domestic(such as Yabuli,Mao’ershan,etc.)and international snow resorts,as well as those used for the latest editions of the Olympic Winter Games and summarised four issues in respect of their operation,development and utilisation: 1)lack of regional general planning;2)simplex investors;3)unreasonable venue locations;and 4)climate restrictions on snow sports.The following conclusions were drawn by the author after reviewing materials related to Beijing 2022’s planning of snow sports venues and their post-Games operation plan,referring to the advanced experience in the development and utilisation of domestic and international major snow resorts,considering our national conditions and the actual composition of the owners,presenting case studies on domestic and international snow sports venues and analysing their operational modes: 1)multi-purpose design should be conducted to create conditions for post-Games operation;2)both professional competition venues and public engagement venues should be developed;3)Beijing 2022 snow sports venues should focus on resource integration to create regional economy;and 4)supporting facilities for Beijing 2022 snow sports venues should be improved.Since most snow sports venues for Beijing 2022 are under planning,this dissertation is for proactive study only and has its limitations.As the author works in this field,updated materials are available.The great importance attached by the national government to Beijing 2022 will provide an extremely favourable environment for the development of China’s winter sports industry.As such,many subsequent operational issues will be rolled out for further research.
