For senior high school students,writing is a very important part of English learning,and an evidence of students' comprehensive ability to use English.However,the previous teaching of English writing shows English writing has always been a tough task for both teachers and students.Students do not know how to express their ideas in proper words;therefore they may gradually lose their interest in writing.When they find it difficult to write in English,they intend to avoid the learning of English writing.As a result,it is difficult to improve their writing ability.Task-based Language Teaching(TBLT)is an approach which focuses on the effective combination of teaching which aims at classroom teaching tasks so that students can acquire knowledge from the tasks they have done.In this teaching mode,students are learning from what they are doing.The New Curriculum encourages this teaching mode,which enables students to obtain knowledge through completing the tasks.Based on this situation,it is of necessity and significance to apply this teaching approach to the teaching of English writing in senior high schools.Based on the TBLT approach and the current English writing teaching situation,this research aims at exploring the effects on application of TBLT to the teaching of English writing in senior high school.Three research questions of this study are as follows:(1)What are the major problems in the current teaching of English writing in Grade One senior high school?(2)What are the main effective teaching methods which adopts the application of TBLT to the teaching of English writing in senior high school?(3)What are the main positive effects on the students regarding the application of TBLT to the teaching of English writing in senior high school?In this research,the subjects are 120 students in two parallel classes in Huaiyang High School in Henan province.The main research methods include questionnaire,interview,text analysis and teaching experiment.The results show:(1)The main problems existing in the current Senior One teaching of English writing include: little emphasis from teachers on teaching English writing;lacking the guidance of a formal,systematic theory in English writing and the training of writing teaching;lacking of effective writing instruction;few specific tasks designed in the classroom teaching of English writing.(2)The effective teaching methods are suggested,including the brainstorming,combination of audio-visual,recitation imitation and peer evolution.(3)The positive effects on the students' English writing as a result of the application of TBLT include: the improved scores of the students' English writing,the enhanced enthusiasm for English writing and the decreased number of the students' grammatical errors in their writing.Based on the research results,this study finds that the application of TBLT to the teaching of Senior high school English writing has many positive effects.It is feasible and worthwhile to practice it in the teaching of English writing in senior high schools.This thesis is made up of five chapters.Chapter One is the introduction part,which introduces the research background,the purposes and significance of the research and the structure of this paper.Chapter Two is the literature review and it introduces the classification and definition of task-based teaching approach,and reviews the research situation at home and abroad,as well as the previous research results.Chapter Three is research design,which presents the research questions and research methods.Chapter Four is the analysis and discussion of the results.Chapter Five is the conclusion,which includes the summary of the research findings,suggestions on the teaching of English writing,the limitations of this thesis and suggestions for further research.
