Jiangsu Province started to use Oxford Senior English (Advance With English,Jiangsu-Edition) as textbooks in senior high schools province-wide in September,2005. As is recommended, Task-based language teaching(TBLT) is widely applied in the school language teaching among the language teachers in the classroom teaching. TBLT is considered as an effective teaching method in"English Course Guidelines for secondary school students", which is the document issued by the Ministry of Education in the years of 2001 and 2003. Nowadays TBLT method/approach is always under research and under debate among the educational experts, researchers and the language teachers. Great efforts were, are being and are to be made to find the best application of TBLT with the contexts of Chinese educational features.Task-based language teaching (TBLT) , like an infant, is still very young. The idea of task-based learning (TBL) was first practiced by N. Prabhu, who worked in a school in Bangalore, southern India. Since then, the idea was greatly popularized in Europe. Many language researchers and language teachers began their experimental practice and they did their research from different aspects to see how TBLT worked in the successful and fruitful in the language teaching/learning.TBLT was then introduced into China in the 1990s. It is clear that TBLT has been apparently growing in popularity among the language teachers in the past few decades, especially after the official documents were issued in 2001 and 2003. We have witnessed the great numbers of publications on TBLT in different books, magazines, research papers and other sources.Task-based language teaching (TBLT) is thus widely considered to be most fashionable and highly innovative. Task-based syllabus is recognized by researchers and educationalists with the following advantages: (1) Adequate consideration of needs analysis; (2) Authenticity of materials; (3) Humanistic orientation and (4) Variety of tasks. Task-based syllabus introduces a focus on form into a meaning-centered curriculum. The syllabus consists of tasks as well as allowing for the systematic treatment of linguistic forms. However, a debate has always been undergoing since the task-based language teaching (TBLT) was introduced into China. Many educators, experts, researchers as well as the language teachers in schools have uttered out their quite different opinions in the their publications. They have presented different opinions and understandings towards TBLT/TBL.This paper focuses on the applications of TBLT in Oxford Senior English(Advance with English, Jiangsu- Edition) teaching and reflects the merits as well as the dis-merits on the TBLT so that a comprehensive understanding can be achieved in the Chinese educational context.
