With the extensive research on the autonomous learning ability of the educational circles at home and abroad,it becomes one of the major subjects in education.At the same time,it is one of the important goals of the new curriculum reform to make students as the center in learning and cultivate learners' autonomous learning ability that requires students lead their own learning.The new curriculum advocates autonomous learning,which aims at promoting the subjectivity,initiative and independence of students,and changes the passive learning state.Therefore,it is important to enhance students' awareness of autonomous learning,and to improve their ability of autonomous learning.As one of the main elements of the language system,vocabulary plays an indispensable role in language learning.Without words,any language is meaningless.The present study shows that the mastery and application of vocabulary will affect the learning effect of learners.The current high school students' English vocabulary mastery is not optimistic,and the "low efficiency" in English vocabulary learning in middle school has dampened the enthusiasm and confidence of both teachers and students.Based on this,stimulating students' autonomy became the goal of language teachers and high school students in the process of vocabulary learning.This article starts with an analysison the background of autonomous learning of English vocabulary and the significance of the situation,and emphasizes the necessity and importance of autonomous learning vocabulary.In the second place,itoutlines the definition of English vocabulary,autonomous learning and autonomous vocabulary learning research at home and abroad.Then the research adopts the methods of questionnaire and interview,regarding 170 senior one students in No.1 Senior High School in Mu Danjiang as the respondents and selecting 6 students randomly as the subjects of interview to investigate high school students' autonomy on English vocabulary learning,the attitudes towards autonomous vocabulary learning and English vocabulary autonomous learning problems that exist in the learning process.The reliability and validity of the questionnaire were tested by SPSS22.0.The research finds that:the tendency towards autonomous vocabulary learning is not high;high school students are weak in the sense of autonomous vocabulary learning;in the process of autonomous vocabulary learning,high school students can not use learning resources and make learning self assessment effectively and lack autonomous vocabulary learning ability.Generally speaking,the current situation of students' autonomous vocabulary learning is not optimistic.Based on the above results,the researchprovides some suggestions,which hopesto arouse learning interest and confidence in students' autonomous vocabulary learning process,enhance students' awareness and ability of using multiple learning resources,and promote the development of students' self-assessment ability,so as to improve the ability of senior high students' autonomous vocabulary learning and theability of foreign language autonomous learning in general.
