Ecology has become a widely concerned topic in recent years.With the development of theories and practices,it has gradually developed into a com plete theory system to provide a new perspective for settling problem s in various fields.Especially in English,in the context of New English Curriculum Standards(NECS),it is of theoretical significance and practical value to study English classroom from ecological perspective.Ecological classroom considers classroom as a tiny ecosystem,which applies the idea of symbiosis that advocates overall,harm onious and comprehensive development to handle classroom factors so that an a ll-round,balanced and correlated cl assroom can be established,and a sustainable development of the whole classroom can be achieved.In this thesis,English ecological classroom has not overturned the current classroom but offers a new perspective to consider it with the e cological principles and theories and prom ote its advantages and get rid of its disadvantages so that consta nt perfection can be achieved.Based on the ecological theories and practical investigation,two questions are explored in this thesis:(1)What is the cur rent situation of English ecological classroom in junior high school?(2)Are there any ecological problems in English classroom? If so,what are they?To address the two questions,open questi onnaires of English teachers(Sam ple=20)and students(Sam ple= 300),interviews with teachers an d students,and classroom observations are applied in Jinzhou N0.8 Junior High School and Beizhen Middle School.The data collected are further analyzed by SPSS.According to the f indings,in the curren t English classroom,there are both p ositive ecological tendency and significant ecological problems in the aspects of teachers' teaching,students' learning,and classroom environment.On the one hand,as the constant exploration of NECS,English classroom have some ecological tendencies when teachers gran t more autonomous rights to students,and pay more attention to students' diversity,language situation,learning process,learning motivation,classroom equity as well as e cological environment.On the other hand,while com promise with the requirements of entrance examination,some ecological problems appear,such as the contradiction between teaching objectives and practical achievement,the separation between teaching content and daily life,the separation between teaching and education,the deviation of singular assessment method and NECS requirem ents,the seesawing batt le between students' learning ability and flowerpot effect,and the deficien cy of t eacher-student relationship and student-student relationship.Based on the findings,this thesis finds out the causes following ecological theories,and then some suggestions are m ade for the ec ological crisis of current class and f urther construction of English ecological classroom.
