Reading as one of the most important skill,occupies the largest proportion in English learning and plays an important part in English teaching.However,the current reading situation and reading teaching are unsatisfactory.For students,they are lacking of interest in reading.For teachers,their teaching of reading is traditional and single,and they can not give the students guidance systematically.This study is about reading guidance based on narrow reading.The narrow reading means giving readers the same type,same theme or the work written by the same author in a short period,which was put forward by Krashen.Narrow reading can help students to accumulate large amount of words,master the cultural background information that is associated with the theme as well as be familiar with the discourse structure of the article,which can solve dilemma of reading situation.In this study,the author randomly chooses 100 students from the parallel classes in Zhangzhou senior high school of Fujian province as experimental objects,and there are 50 students in the experimental class and control class respectively.The author tries to put narrow reading as the guidance into the senior English reading.The pre-test,post-test,interview and questionnaire will be used in the process of the experiment,and the data will be analyzed by SPSS21.0 to test the following questions:1.Can Narrow Reading improve students' reading comprehension in Senior English reading guidance.2.Can Narrow Reading improve students' reading comprehension about the five types of questions in Senior English reading guidance.3.Can Narrow Reading improve students' reading subjective initiative in Senior English reading guidance.After the experiment,the result shows that on the whole,narrow reading can help students to improve their reading level.From the perspective of five types reading questions,in the aspect of “understanding the specific information”,“making a simple judgment and speculation”,“inferring the meaning of new words according to the context”,“understating the authors' intention and view”,narrow reading plays a promoting role;while,for the aspect of “understanding the gist”,the experiment indicates that narrow reading also improve the ability of students but the result is not obvious.What' more,the improvement of students' subjective initiative also can be showed in the questionnaire.Therefore,to some extent,narrow reading can make up for the inadequacy of traditional reading guidance,which will improve students' reading level.
