| Language learning needs a lot of input,so English reading teaching is very important in junior high school. However now the students are generally lack of interest and motivation to the reading training. We need to help our students to find an effective reading mode to stimulate their reading interest and promote their reading comprehension.This study explores the effectiveness of narrow reading in reading teaching of junior high school. We implement a narrow language input in order to increase students’reading comprehension. The results of the study provide reference to improve the efficiency of English reading teaching in the junior middle school. Looking back on foreign and domestic studies of narrow reading teaching, many scholars have made certain achievements. Empirical research abroad is more aimed at foreign learners of English speakers, not for learners of English as a second language. Domestic research is more for English reading teaching in colleges, rare in junior middle school, so it is necessary to study further. On the basis of previous studies, this paper adopts the method of combining quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis through testing, questionnaire and interview.This study took place in a junior middle school in Haimen,Jiangsu province. The subjects are two natural classes of Grade 7, a total of 91 students. There are two main research questions of this study: (1) How can Narrow reading affect the reading ability of junior middle school students? (2) How can Narrow Reading affect the students’ initiative of English reading in junior middle school ?Through the analysis of the data, the main conclusions of this study are as follows: (1)The repeated words in the narrow reading make students enlarge their vocabulary in the context. With the gradual understanding of the topic in the process of reading, the accumulation of background knowledge will make it easier for them to understand the topic. A large number of authentic language input in narrow reading enhances students’English sense. The outline of the story in the narrow reading teaching mode can improve the students’ ability of discourse analysis. The narrow reading teaching mode has changed the way and method of students’ English reading and let the students develop good reading habits. The timely feedback and evaluation in the narrow reading teaching mode strengthen the students’ ability of thinking in English. (2) Narrow reading reduces the difficulty of language materials and the students’ psychological anxiety through the repeated vocabulary and background knowledge, thus it stimulates students’ interest in English reading and improves their reading confidence. The students centered Narrow Reading model provides students with a lot of opportunities to use the language, and enhances the motivation of the students’ English reading. |
