Research On The Integration Of Mathematical History Into Middle School Calculus Teaching

The immersion of history of mathematics into mathematics teaching has become an important research branch in teaching activities. According to the new curriculum reform, calculus which was taught in university now become an important content in high school, it includes differential, integration and their applications. The creation of calculus promotes the development for different branches of mathematics and other fields such as physics. The history of the development of calculus is of great humanistic and ideological value, but there are not many available schemes for the calculus teaching based on the history of mathematics. What would be the difficulties encountered in the application of mathematical history in math teaching? In this paper,by investigating high school math teachers and students, we try to understand the application reality, their point of view for immersion the mathematical history in to calculus teaching and what kind of problems would be encountered in the process of teaching activities. Then we will try to find solutions for such problems.This paper is divided into five sections. In the first section, we introduce background of the application of history of mathematics to mathematical teaching.The second section is questionnaire survey and interview for high school teacher and students. The third section is devoted to the introduction of history of calculus and its applications to math teaching activities. In the fourth section, the author gives some concrete strategies for the integration of mathematical history into calculus teaching.In the fifth section, the author explains how to immersion the history of mathematics in the teaching of calculus by two complete cases. The last part is the conclusion of this paper.
