The Study On The Migrant Workers Collect Used-Clothing From The Perspective Of Rational Choice Theory

Used-Clothing collection is a social phenomenon around the world.In China,after a long period of evolution,used-clothing collection have turned from a daily purchasing behavior of meeting the needs of individual survival to a market behavior that the groups to maximize the benefits.As the tide of migrant workers arises,more and more migrant workers poured into the used-clothing market,and they have become a principal part of the used-clothing market.It makes the phenomenon of used-clothing collection more socially meaningful that the migrant workers participate in the used-clothing collection.In the terms of function of used-clothing collection,on the one hand,used-clothing collection have a positive function to the development of society,which not only can promote the recycling of used-clothing and create economic and environmental benefits,but also can promote the employment of migrant workers.While,on the other hand,used-clothing collection have a negative function to the social development,it not only destroy the urban environment and damage the health of the public,but also affect the urban public security and lead to the migrant workers marginalized.Although our government ban the used-clothing trade,but there are still migrant workers sale used-clothing,and it shows a distinctive characteristics of survival ration,economic ration and develop ration.According to Coleman's rational choice theory,it is a rational choice that migrant workers follow the principle of maximizing interests to collect used-clothing.From migrant workers,the interests is not only to meet the needs of survival and help they make economic benefit,but also to help they achieve self-development.However at the macro level,The existing social structure and exact system of norms make migrant workers' choice possible.In the fact,the migrant workers engaged in collecting used-clothing is the result of migrant workers' individual ration interacts with the macro social system.This study take the migrant workers of W village who engaged in collecting used-clothing as an example,and by using the methods of questionnaires and case interview to research the social phenomenon,it finds that the migrant workers' action that collect used-clothing is a rational action which based on making maximizing interests,and survival ration,economic ration and develop ration make the migrant workers' action possible.Face the pressure of survival,they choose to collect used-clothing in the absence of social resources.Due to the constraints of social structure,the migrant workers' self-actualization is limited,so used-clothing collection become their best choice to realize themselves.Therefore,Therefore,the action of migrant workers to collect used-clothing is not only the driving force of survival ration,economic ration and develop rati on,but also is the result of migrant workers'individual ration interacts with the macro social system.We should give an objective and fair view of this social phenomenon,and to adopt effective governance strategies.
