The Book of History,an outstanding representative of Chinese traditional culture,is regarded as the best of "Five Classics".It contains a wealth of education thought,which has had a profound influence on future generations.Moreover,it has been a guidance in current ideological and political education.The main contents of the education thought in the Book of History include seven parts as follows: political view education represented by the "nine principles of ruling a country" and the monarch-subject standpoint,moral education represented by "administrative morality",ethics education represented by "five ethics",legal concept of education represented by "cautious employment of penalty" and "publicize punishment to warn",primitive religious education represented by sacrifice etiquette and destiny,military education throughout the course of the war,and ritual music education represented by "ceremony system of Zhou Dynasty".All of those provide a basis for further discussing the characteristics,the historical position and limitations of education thoughts as well as for expounding the enlightenment which the present ideological and political education gains from education thoughts in the Book of History.The characteristics of the education thoughts in the Book of History history are showed in the following four aspects: the dual nature of the education purpose,the limitations of the education object,the richness and diversity of the education content,and the iversity and compulsory of the education mothod.Bring a profound impact on the Confucian culture,the education thought in the Book of History is one of the ideologicalsources of human-oriented concept and is an important part of our country’s early education thought.However,because of the limitations of age and class,the education thought in the Book of History will inevitably have theoretical limitations,which are embodied in the following four aspects: the limitation of education object,the emphasis on hierarchy,the idea of superstition and the fucus on commonality rather than individuality on education purpose;on infusion education rather than heuristic education in education methods.According to the function characteristics,the purpose of education thoughts in the Book of History can be divided into two parts.One is functional education purpose represented by careful and lasting self-cultivation and the other is valuable education purpose represented by "being in harmony with various nations".The establishment of the purpose of education is determined by the specific social and historical conditions and the purpose of education thoughts embodied in the Book of History is not exceptional.Though it’s basically in the service of the ruling class of slave owners,the ideas it embodies are still worthy of our profound thinking about and learn from,such as the education of self-cultivation,the thought of "nine virtues",the idea of harmony,etc.The related content and method of education thought in the Book of History can provide useful enlightenments for the present ideological and political education,which mainly display as follows: First,it attaches great importance to moral character and cultivates the talents of having both ability and political integrity;Second,it strengthens the legal system education and enhances ideological and political education effect;Third,it strengthens the ideological and political education’s charisma through making use of the value-inheritance function in ceremony education;Fouth,it digs the teaching function of ritual music education and promotes the innovation of the method of ideological and political education;Fifth,it attaches great importance to the military education to strengthen the patriotic feelings;Sixth,it attaches great importance to the idea of "Put people first" and promotes the all-round development of human beings;Seventh,it emphasizes the teaching method of uniting knowledge and action,and improves the actual effect of ideological and political education;Finally,it learn the materials in the Book ofHistory about the ideological and political education.
