Writing is an indispensable part in English language skills for senior high schools students as well as a significant form of comprehensive language competence.English writing class plays an essential role in consolidating knowledge,broadening thinking,expressing emotion and cultivating students' comprehensive language skill.By taking the English writing class,students can not only develop thinking and emotion abilities,but also can help them apply what they have learned into practice.At the same time,High School English Curriculum Standard put forward the specific requirements for knowledge of English writing to cultivate their interests in learning and enhancing their confidence in.Besides,as the survey about writing in college entrance examination,the research has found that writing content is more and more close to students' real life.Having analyzed the existing literature and having been engaged in the teaching practice,the author found that teacher-centered model still dominates the majority of English writing class.Teacher-centered model highlights on the knowledge and language form,rather than the writing content,interest and attitude,which has seriously hindered the cultivation of students' creativity.And the writing content is out of reality,which makes students' writing lack of initiative,authenticity and communication.Therefore,it is necessary to explore a suitable English writing method and for improving effectiveness and efficiency of English writing.With the characteristics of authenticity,autonomy and reality,diary can stimulate students writing interests better.Therefore,by taking advantage of Krashen' Input Hypothesis Theory and Swain's Output Hypothesis,as well as combining the study results previously,the author applied two different diary forms into senior high school teaching practice toinvestigate the effectiveness of the different diary forms in English writing class.The study chose 99 students of two natural classes of senior in No.1 High School of WS in Shanxi province as the subjects.Class 1,consisting of 50 students,is regarded as the experimental class,while class 2,consisting of 49 students,is the control class.With the same teaching content and similar language level of students,the teacher adopted two diary forms,the life-based diary form in experimental class and text-based diary form in control class.The entire experiment was conducted between the two classes and lasted one semester.In order to survey the students' attitudes towards English writing before and after experiment,the author distributed 99 questionnaires,and then,the practice research of the two different diary forms was conducted.The research questions are listed as follows:1.What are senior high school students' attitudes towards English writing before and after experiment?2.In terms of one-week post-test,what are the effects of life-based diary and text-based diary on English writing's organization,accuracy and fluency?3.In terms of two-month post-test,what are the effects of life-based diary and text-based diary on English writing's organization,accuracy and fluency?4.In terms of one-semester post-test,what are the effects of life-based diary and text-based diary on English writing's organization,accuracy and fluency?In this thesis,the author applies the SPSS 17.0 to process and to analyze the collected data,and draws the following conclusions:According to the pre-questionnaire,we can draw the conclusion that students hold a negative view on English writing.They are unwilling to write,and they write just for fulfilling the task,rather than expressing and communicating.What's more,students do not form the habits of writing in English.However,according to the post questionnaire,we can find that students' attitudes have changed a lot.More and more students are willing to write in English,and their purpose of writing is not just for completing the task,as well as for communicating.Students also pay more attention to the English writing,and they also become more confident to share their English writing with others.Therefore,we can concludethat one semester's diary keeping plays an effective role on students' attitudes towards English writing.According to the analysis,there is no significant difference of the two different diary forms in the one-week post-test.For students,one week teaching practice is a very short time,and it is limited for them to accept the essence of two different diary form and apply into their writing.Although the life-based diary form is beneficial to students' thinking ability and promote students' expression fluency,and the text-based diary form is profitable to students' accuracy of language expression,the two class still present the same state.In a short time,students language accuracy won't change no matter what for life-based diary and text-based diary form.Both students can write complete sentence,and coherent discourses based on their learning during the class.Therefore,it is almost equivalent for students' fluency in a short time,and both of them are equally conductive to students short term writing.Considering that their previous writing ability is almost at the same level,it is not surprising that two classes have no significant difference in their writing.In the two-month post-test,there is a significant difference of English writing between two classes.After two months,in the experimental class,students have realized the importance of applying their life into the writing,and they are encouraged to pay more attention to the write content and less attention to the accuracy.Therefore,they obtain the active thinking ability and various expression of sentence,which are indispensable for writing.But for text-based diary form,students focus on their text book,which limits their thinking ability invisibly.Students pay more attention to the language accuracy,such as the word collocation or grammar.Therefore,life-based diary form do better for students' writing fluency and text-based diary is better in writing accuracy.Distinct diary forms have diverse effects on different aspects of writing.For the three aspects of writing,organization contains the attractiveness of beginning and ending,purpose is explicit,enrichment of content,and the completeness of details.The accuracy relates to the accuracy of sentence,grammar,spelling,punctuation and paragraph.In terms of fluency,it involves these aspects,such as sentence construction,collocation and transition.In the one-semester post-test,students have been trained in different forms of diary for one semester,the life-based diary form and text-based diary form.In terms of organization,the content of life-based diary form definitely comes from daily life,which means students' writing content itself is colorful,so the diary can be more attractive compared with life-based diary form.Students can also develop attentions of details,and reflected in the diary it is theirwell-constructed details.On the contrary,text-based diary form mainly relies on the text,which contains the fixed content.Therefore,life-based diary form performs better in organization.Concerning the fluency,life-based diary form is more free and without psychological pressure,so they prefer to express in pace with their consciousness,and they write for communication,which concerns the sentence fluency.After a long time,students become more and more interested and confident in their writing,which is essential for students.Under the free condition,students' writing ability is developed more quickly.But for text-based diary form,it restricts students' language competence to a degree.Hence,it is clear that life-based diary form is better in fluency than text-based diary form.About accuracy,it emphasizes the standardization and accuracy of language.For life-based diary form,it focuses on the communication,so the accuracy is its weakness.But for text-based diary form,it is mainly for consolidating the knowledge,so it requires more accuracy than another form.Relied on the textbook,which has precise usage of language,students get more exact language training.Therefore,it is no denying that text-based on diary form is much better in accuracy than the other.
