| China is a multi-ethnic nation,and it is essential for the education system to balance the ethnicity in different regions.Minority Mongolian in China is one of the largest group of ethnic minority;therefore,education among the minority Mongolian is one of the crucial component of the education system.With economic globalization and urbanization,the living environment for the minority ethnic population is undergoing massive changes.Minority Mongolian is no exception in this respect.Influenced by the Han and Western cultures,Inner Mongolia is facing the Han-preference problem,considering the acquisition of Han and Western culture more preferable to future development,ignoring the study of the Mongolian language and culture.In this way,the inheritance and the spread of traditional Mongolian culture face great obstacles.The present thesis proposes that the Han-preference problems is essentially the manifestation of cultural fusion,which is one of the inevitable trend in today’s society.However,the inheritance of traditional culture and the adaptation to the main stream culture are in no way contradictory.They should be able to develop interdependently.This thesis addresses this crucial Han-preference problem with Hinggan region as a case.The study uses field observation,interview etc.to understand the Han-preference problem in Hinggan.Through statistical description and analysis of the Han-preference problem in ethnic school and ordinary school,this study analyses the source and effect of the problem,revealing the path for its interrelation,and hence proposes a solution.In the first part of the thesis,the present Han-preference problem in Hinggan region is illustrated with the analysis of its effect and features.Secondly,the source of the problem is analyzed from the perspective of policy making,social environment,school education,economical development,and shared values.A deeper analysis shows how each one of these factors affect the ethnic education in Inner Mongolia.Finally,based on the aforementioned analysis,the thesis proposes solutions in terms of enhancing ethnic policy making,incorporating traditional Mongolian culture with modern social need,perfecting ethnic education system,transforming linguistic value,and guaranteeing opportunities for studying Mongolian and so on. |
