Student-centered participation teaching is an effective teaching model in which teachers can arouse students' enthusiasm,initiative and creation of learning through various well-designed teaching activities to make all the students be proactively involved in the teaching process,and finally develop students' autonomic learning,knowledge mastering,subjective ability and subjectivity(Cheng Jun,2003).Its ultimate goal is to train students' subjective ability and awareness,improve students' learning quality,and realize the maximization of the efficiency of classroom teaching.It can stimulate students' English learning interests,mobilize their initiative and enthusiasm of participation,and cultivate students' independent personality and creative spirit.It can also develop every student's cooperative consciousness and practical ability.However,traditional English teaching only regards teacher as the center,students' learning is passive,they don't like English,let alone their active participation.And so students' autonomous learning ability is poor and the English teaching efficiency is low.Based on constructivism learning theory and subject education theory,this paper constructs the student-centered participation teaching model of high school English according to the new curriculum idea and the characteristics of high school English and applies it to English teaching in order to change traditional English teaching model,highlight the student's subject position,promote students' active participation,cooperation and exploration,and finally improve the situation of student participation,enhance students' English autonomous learning ability and English proficiency.This research took two parallel classes of first-grade students in Class One and Class Seven from Tianshui No.1 Senior High School as research subjects,and the experiment lasts sixteen weeks.Three research questions are(1)Can the application of studentcentered participation teaching model of high school English improve the situation of students' behavioral,cognitive and emotional participation in English learning?(2)Can the application of student-centered participation teaching model of high school English enhance students' English autonomous learning ability?(3)Can the application of student-centered participation teaching model of high school English work better than traditional English teaching in improving students' English proficiency?The result shows that the application of student-centered participation teaching model of high school English can improve the situation of students' behavioral,cognitive and emotional participation in English learning,can enhance students' English autonomous learning ability,can improve students' English proficiency,also it worked better than traditional English teaching and helped to stimulate students' interest in English learning.There are six parts in this thesis.Part one consists of the background,purpose,significance and thought of the research.Part two shows some definitions of this study and reviews researches on student-centered participation teaching both at home and abroad.In part three,the author constructs the student-centered participation teaching model of high school English based on the five elements of a teaching model which are theoretical basis,goal orientation,realization,procedure,and evaluation,also the application process is described in detail.Part four describes the experiment of the research which consists of the research questions,research subjects,research instruments,and the whole process of the experiment.Part five analyzes and discusses the collected data of this study in detail and part six presents major findings,implications,and limitation of this study,also points out some suggestions for future study.
