"To take care of yourself ' was an ancient philosophical topic in ancient Greece,and it was a great philosophical practice too.Caring for oneself means caring for one's own soul,and the practice of caring for one's own soul is a kind of epistemological practice,ethical practice,and pedagogical practice.In ancient Chinese philosophy,"take care of yourself" and "self-cultivation" are corresponding.Confucian self-cultivation philosophy was about a kind of spirit development practice,and it was an educational idea of a complete personality cultivation.However,in modern society,teachers' action in the "take care of themselves"are so week that make their spirit wallow in mediocrity.We can "diagnosis" this kind of mediocrity from the alienation of the image of teachers.Teacher's spiritual mediocrity characterized as teachers' anxiety of their status and the missing of teacher's ethical identity.Teacher's spiritual mediocrity mainly refers to teacher's mediocrity spiritual pursuit,thus make the teacher's personality become mediocre.Teachers' normative educator-personality slipped to a utilitarian personality.Since teachers' spirit are becoming mediocre,our teachers forget the nature of teachers and the spirit of education,and that will lead to the spirit of education be distortion.Therefore,modern teachers need a positive spiritual transformation by pay attention to the spiritual pursuit and the shaping of personality.To achieve the teachers'spiritual transformation,we need a "spiritual exercise",and Confucian philosophy is a good choice for us.Let us focus on traditional philosophy.The wisdom from ancient philosophy can inspire teachers to live a good life.Take Confucian philosophy as an example,the Junzi's life is a good choice for teachers.Junzi teacher is a person who live a life of self-cultivation,in his(or her)educational practice,he is trying to cultivate a benevolent,intelligent and courageous personality,by learning,introspecting and exercising.The process of Junzi teachers'self-cultivation is also an effort to gaining students' happiness and improving their spiritual health.This research aims to analyze the image of teachers in Confucian philosophy,trying to reveal that Junzi teacher is a good educator that teachers ought to be,because Junzi teacher is a good example both in taking care of himself,and in taking their educational life as a kind of spiritual exercise.The study consists of four parts.The first part is the analysis of the problems of teachers' self-understanding and spiritual life in the context of modern society.By"diagnosing" teachers' modernity "disease" in two aspects:ontological anxiety and ethical identity crisis.The second part of the study is to find a treatment plan of teachers,modernity "disease".In Stoicism philosophy,"philosophy is a way of self-medication",we can be inspired from Stoicism idea.In Confucian philosophy,the Junzi's way of life is a good choice for teachers in modern society.Junzi and teacher are coherence in "how to live a good life",Confucian philosophy of self-cultivation provide a good choice for teachers to get rid of the modernity crisis.The third part is the analysis of Junzi teachers' self-cultivation in their educational life.Junzi teachers' educational idea of self-cultivation include three parts:educational idea on "how to be a good man";"patiently to acquire knowledge,and to beindefatigable in teaching it to others";Junzi teachers' way of introspection and instruction in examination of personal conduct.Junzi teacher devote himself to the exercise of self-cultivation philosophy,he wants to order his conduct aright for the happiness of others.The fourth part bases on a combination between Confucian philosophy and Pierre Hadot's philosophy,because both Confucian philosophy of self-cultivation and Pierre Hadot's "spirit exercise" focus on "take care of oneself'.Junzi teacher's self-cultivation practice is a kind of spiritual exercise.To be a Junzi teacher,the teacher should live an educational life.Junzi teacher is self-fulfilling when he successfully devotes himself to the spiritual exercise.
