The new geography curriculum reform in senior high school attaches great importance to students' exploration of geography problems,emphasizes students' habit of autonomous learning,inquiries cooperative learning,and improves students' autonomous learning ability.In geography classroom teaching,students have different degrees of weariness,which leads to problems of low enthusiasm and motivation in learning geography,and unsatisfactory learning results.Therefore,teachers should adopt effective teaching strategies to stimulate and maintain students' learning motivation in geography,so as to improve students' learning achievement in geography.Professor Keller,an American psychologist,proposed the ARCS motivation model,which consists of the initials of English words with four elements,namely,Attention,Relevance,Confidence and Satisfaction.The model focuses on how to effectively stimulate and maintain students' learning motivation and proposes corresponding teaching strategies for teaching content and students' motivation.Foreign scholars have applied the model to the field of normal education.Teaching practice has proved that the model is highly operational and can guide teachers to stimulate and maintain students' learning motivation in classroom teaching.Based on ARCS motivation model as the theoretical guidance,and on the basis of teaching content and students' motivation,this paper designs four-element teaching strategies and related teaching cases,and conducts teaching experiments in Senior 1 Arts class of Mengyang Middle School in Pengzhou City,Sichuan Province.Senior high school geography teaching based on ARCS motivation mode is conducted in pilot classes,and routine teaching is conducted in other ordinary classes and key classes.Before and after the implementation of the teaching strategy,the students in each class were investigated with a questionnaire on geography learning motivation.Combined with the students' examination results,SPSS and other software were used to make statistical analysis of the data.The analysis results show that after the implementation of ARCS motivation model,students can pay attention to geography learning,realize that the content they have learned is closely related to their own needs,have confidence in learning geography knowledge well and are satisfied with the current geography learning.This model can effectively improve students' learning motivation and achievement in geography to a certain extent.It can promote geography classroom teaching in senior high schools and can be popularized in future geography teaching.
