Since 1970s,Communicative Teaching Approach has been introduced to foreign language teaching in China.It has been warmly welcomed for having greatly enriched our foreign language teaching theories and promoted people's acknowledgement of language teaching.Communicative Teaching Approach has been playing a more and more important role in the modern English teaching and it will certainly make a great difference to modern English teaching if it is appropriately applied.Grammar has always been a hot issue in foreign language teaching and research.Under China's new curriculum standards,traditional grammar teaching mode is mainly based on teacher's explanation and students' mechanical drills of grammar rules and this teaching mode is no longer adapt to the development of the times.It can not meet students' requirement of linguistic communication,either.But communicative teaching approach can meet the requirements because it puts emphasis on the dominant position of students and the importance of interaction.Communicative approach has been increasingly widely used in the teaching of speaking and listening.However,there are some shortcomings and problems in the introduction of communicative approach to foreign language teaching,so it has aroused a lot of controversy.Many factors such as people's understadiing of communicative approach,the stress of examination-oriented education,and the traditional teaching principles greatly restricted the application of communicative approach.Grammar was once ignored in foreign language teaching.Meanwhile,the teaching effect of the application of pure communicative approach,which ignores grammar teaching,is not satisfactory.In the actual teaching,most teachers still choose the traditional method of teaching grammar,just teach some grammatical structure,syntax and grammar conceptual knowledge,students learn passively and mechanically.Students remember the language rules by reciting again and again so they often fail to use the grammatical knowledge flexibly.Both oral and writing cannot be accurate and properly.Therefore,a correct view of the advantages and disadvantages of the communicative approach,and an effective application of communicative approach under real situations in our country is very important.This study was to explore the communicative approach from a practrical perspective on the present status,constraints factors and strategies to improve.The first part describes the research background,significance and paper frame;the second part will be set forth on studies of the communicative approach in junior English teaching at home and abroad,and this part also introduces the theoretical basis associated;the third part will cover the practical research question,objects,methods,tools and procedures;the fouth part of the questionnaire data analysis the test results,and discusses the status of implementation including its strengths and weaknesses,paterns and characteristics,constraint factors and relevant inspiration,hoping to give some valuable information and suggestions on how to enhance students' interest in learning English and improve English grammar teaching efficiency.
