| Applying the analytical paradigm of labor process theory, this paper attempts to grasp the micro-politics of the road and bridge construction site through the field observation of the two road and bridge construction sites in S city,Hubei Province. It is proposed that the road and bridge construction site forms a " Symbiosis-dependent"type of production regime. The construction site of the road and bridge construction industry is an independent micro-political field, which shapes the dual relationships model of "symbiotic" and"dependent" between labor contractor and migrant workers, and external countries, market forces cannot exert a direct effect on the internal interaction model of the construction sites. The first part of this study puts forward the research topic of the site production regime, and then gives a brief description of the participatory observation and the depth interview method adopted in the survey. Finally,it reviews the historical process, analytical orientation,as well as the latest theoretical progress of labor process theory and production regime theory. In the second part, the main situation of the field investigation and the survey object is introduced, and then the labor contractors’ management strategy of the road and bridge construction site is analyzed from four dimensions. It is believed that the contractors strengthen the segmentation between different types of workers through management strategies of "three in one" labor force maintaining,"differentiated division of labor","two-track system" paying and the workers’ "double segment" living arrangements,as a result,a site production community is formed, which combines workers(core workers, workers introduced by nuclear workers, etc.)with external workers(seconded workers, professional construction team). The third part mainly discusses the formation mechanism of "symbiotic-dependent"production regime in the production community.First, the paper analyzes how the"symbiotic-attached" type of production system becomes possible from the perspective of definition, and then discusses the individual and structural conditions of forming construction regime:(1)migrant workers’ differentiated human capital;(2)the labor market with a strong network of relationships;(3)the social identity segmentation;(4)flexible work organization of the site;(5)dilemma of urban and rural situation. The fourth part mainly analyzes the operation mechanism of "symbiotic-dependent"production regime. It is believed that the site regime exerts an effect on maintaining and expanding the labor force, informal restraint, production loyalty and differentiation struggle through the intertwining of the fellow network and industry relations. With the formation of "symbiotic-attached" type of site system, the original established internal and external relations consolidate and reproduce. The fifth part mainly investigates the different modes of struggle in the site.It is believed that the mode of struggle between the contractor and the workers in different relations modes is different, and the overall trend is fierce and moderate, that is,the rupture of symbiosis and the reinforcement of dependence. In addition, the symbiotic and dependent relationships between contractors and workers are not static,in other words, symbiotic relationship and dependent relationship can be transformed into each other under certain conditions. Finally, the paper summarizes the "symbiosis-attachment" system of road and bridge construction site, and puts forward the rethinking of the theoretical system of"autocracy" and "hegemony".Also,it points out the problems to be solved of this research. |
