| National Long-term Education Reform and Development Plan clearly points out that teachers and schools should update the concept of education to strengthen the building of teachers and improve the level of teaching ability.In addition,it is necessary to pay more attention to improve the training system and optimize the team structure to build teachers teams with high-quality.Therefore,it is crucial to improve English teacher self-efficacy and accelerate teacher’s professional development.The motivation of the research includes: 1)the paradigm shift of study on foreign language teacher;2)the ignoring of teacher’s professional development of middle school English teacher;3)the close relation among teacher self-efficacy,teaching ability and student’s study.The main research questions are listed as follows:1)What is the current situation of teacher self-efficacy of English teachers in senior middle schools and vocational high schools?2)What is the difference of teacher self-efficacy between English teachers in senior middle schools and vocational high schools in terms of the relevant dimensions?3)What should we do to improve teaching level and promote teacher’s professional development by analyzing the comparison of teacher self-efficacy of English teachers in senior middle schools and vocational high schools?The questionnaires and interviews are adopted in this study to collect data and the Likert Scale is adopted in designing the questionnaire.The participants who answered the questionnaire and the interview questions come from Wuxiang Senior Middle School and Wuxiang Vocational High School.Moreover,the SPSS17.0 is used to analyze the relevant data.The results indicate that the scores of teacher self-efficacy in senior middle school and vocational high school are both at a high level,which implies that the English teachers aremore confident and satisfied with their teaching work and teaching abilities.However,there are significant differences in the four dimensions of teacher self-efficacy.The teacher self-efficacy of senior middle school is generally higher than that of the vocational high school in the dimensions of the classroom management,teaching assessment and teacher’professional development.The study shows that the English teachers in vocational high school perform better in the category of the teacher-student interaction.There are not significant differences in the aspects of analyzing textbook and teaching strategy for the two schools.Further more,the result of the teachers’ professional development is far from satisfactory,which should be stressed by school authority later.There are some limitations of this study due to the author’s limited research time and weak academic capacity.Thus,at the end of the paper some suggestions are put forward for the further study on the topic of the English teacher self-efficacy,teacher’s professional development and English education in middle school. |
