The Research On The Vicissitudes Of Rural Settlement In Han Dynasty

In recent years,with the continuous advances of archaeological work,and increasing discoveries of rural settlement site of Han Dynasty,the research on the rural settlement during Han Dynasty has been promoting.On the basis of existing research,combining with the document literature and unearthed materials,the paper tries to study the process and reasons of vicissitudes about the rural settlement.The author puts forward personal views and opinions,and discusss corresponding questions.Firstly,combing the literatures about rural settlement,the thssis studies the rural settlement mainly,and analyses the settlement inside city walls and scattered settlements outside city walls.It is necessary to illustrates overview of the rural settlement of different regions over Han Empire.Secondly,It is widespread trend that leaving from settlements inside city walls in Han Dynasty.Most people go to mountain valley where the control by imperial court is weak.A number of the refugees often form new settlements.The vicissitudes of rural settlements can be observed by the personal residence,and mainly by villagers,clan and other groups.Thirdly,the dissertation focus on the causes for rural settlements changes.Considering that the changes of rural settlements is along with the reproduction,migration of the people constantly.We can not study the vicissitudes of rural settlements without the reproduction,mobility and migration of the people.The thesis focus on population mobility,migration in order to observe the change of the settlements.The change of the settlements is mainly manifested by the formation,expansion,decline and destruction.The formation and expansion of the settlement is largely due to the growth of the family household.Along with the time,it forms new rural settlements or expands the existing settlements.In addition,refugee migration has dual influence on the rural settlements.The original residence falls into disuse,and on the other hand,they construct new settlements.Of course,the settlements will also suffer destruction,such as floods,earthquakes and other disasters which can destroy the settlements.War may also bring settlements into ruins.Finally,the dissertation discusses the role who the rulers act as in the process of changes of the rural settlements.For example,royal court controls common people,registers house,migratepeople,grant farmland and housing land and so on.The control of the masses at the grassroots level also reflects the governance of rural settlement.
