China has a long history of farming and civilization since ancient times. The rural society is the foundation of Chinese society. With the acceleration of industrialization and urbanization, the characteristics of traditional rural areas in China have gradually changed. The social and economic forms and regional spatial patterns in rural areas have emerged with new features, and the problem of rural settlement development has become increasingly prominent. As a space carrier for the production and living of rural residents, rural settlements understand the evolution law, driving mechanism and optimization path of rural settlements from the perspective of geography, which is the theoretical basis for promoting the sustainable development of rural areas. Therefore, under the current "rural revitalization" strategy, the study of the evolution and optimization of rural settlements is of great significance to the enrichment of rural geography research and the implementation of the "rural revitalization" strategy.Using GIS spatial analysis, compactness index, landscape pattern index, land use transfer flow and other methods, the evolution and evolution types of rural settlements in Jianghua Yao Autonomous County, the influencing factors and influence mechanism of rural settlement evolution, the optimization objectives and modes of rural settlements, and countermeasures.research.The main conclusions of the study are as follows:(1)From 1980 to 2017,the rural settlements in Jianghua Yao Autonomous County changed significantly, and the spatial differences were obvious. The distribution density of rural settlements is generally“dense western sparse eastern” spatial characteristics, and the distribution density high value area expands along the west, forming a strip shape, and the distribution density low value area shows a rotation characteristic;the rural settlement plaque form is increasingly complex; The scale of rural settlements has gradually increased, but the overall scale is still small, and the overall characteristics of " Western big eastern small " have emerged. The regional differences in rural settlement land use were obvious, and the dynamics of rural settlement land transfer and transfer were “high and low in both sides”.With the characteristics of “high-lying forest areas along the river and low suburbs”,the evolution of rural settlements is divided into three types: natural evolution, accelerated evolution and violent evolution.(2)The evolution of rural settlements in Jianghua Yao Autonomous County is influenced by various factors.According to the differences in the evolution paths of rural settlements under the influence of various influencing factors, the influencing factors are divided into three categories.the elevation, slope, and distance from the river belong to the basic factors, the changes in the location conditions and the per capita disposable income of farmers belong to the new factors, and the construction of major projects and policy strategies belong to the mutation factors. The interaction of three kinds of influencing factors forms the "three-wheel" driving mechanism for the evolution of rural settlements in Jianghua Yao Autonomous County.(3)Under the background of rural revitalization, the optimization goals of rural settlements in Jianghua Yao Autonomous County mainly include reasonable rural settlement layout, perfect system, intensive rural settlement land use,and organic renewal of traditional rural settlements. In the future,we should make rational optimization by means of suburban integration, agglomeration and promotion, retention and control, and relocation. We will focus on strengthening rural planning, promoting the rational flow of rural population, improving land management andcirculation, fostering the impetus for industrial development, and strengthening rural infrastructure development.
