Social Capital Study Of A Hui People Community

Social capital refers to social relation resources that a social actor(individuals or organizations)obtains from a given social structure in order to achieve a certain purpose,such resources are not entity,but rather embedded in social structure,manifested mainly in three formsas social networks,reciprocity social norms and social trust.These three elements constitute a stable triangular relationship of social capital.By taken Huihuiying community(literally means Hui People's camp)as case study,this paper attempt to explore the social capital of an ethnic community of Hui people through three dimensions,namely the social network,reciprocity social norms and social trust.In terms of social network,the study mainly achieved three conclusions.Firstly the Huihuiying Community mostly remains as a traditional acquaintance society in the Pattern of Difference Sequence,the social networks are mostly influenced by blood relations,geographic relations and occupational relations.Secondly,the social networks of the community are mostly constitutes by connections among community members,as there is not much interaction with people outside of the community.Thirdly,due to structural constraints,social networking presents distinctive educational structure-dependent,career structure-dependent and age structure-dependent features.It's found that the Huihuiying is a community with strong reciprocity norms and enjoys high degree of unity,and its residents are generally benevolent.While Islam promote equity,justice,sincerity and kindness,It is this devout belief of the community people that help to mold each individual's behavior,encourages virtues of mutual assistance,solidarity,fraternity and other,therefore fosters community reciprocity culture.This Study also found that while enjoys strong reciprocity norms,Huihuiying community also features with high degree of social trust.However,the social trust of Huihuiying community is restrictive in terms of its scope,as it is mostly shared within the community boundary and religious boundary(Islam),beyond these two boundaries,the social trust are greatly challenged.Besides,the development of social capital faces many other challenges in the process of social structure changes.Therefore,tocultivatemultidimensional social networks,reciprocity social norms and general social trust are major tasks and target for the development of social capital in ethnic communities in future.
