With the promulgation of The National Mathematics Curriculum Standard for Senior Middle Schools(trial)in China,2003,great changes have been made in mathematic teaching materials, conception, objective, content, structure and so on.Great adjustments have been made in the content of solid geometry. What effects will these changes and adjustments have on students' learning of solid geometry? Are they successful or not? What are the achievements and in what aspects are there deficiencies? Research on those questions has important implications for the reform of the national mathematics curriculum and teaching materials. Therefore,it is of great importance to study the changes of solid geometry content in the textbooks based on the curriculum standard and the syllabus. There are advantages, disadvantages and differences in each reform of mathematic teaching materials. The comparison of different textbooks helps us to understand the position of solid geometry in new curriculum and make the full use of the textbooks based on the new curriculum standard and those based on the syllabus as well.Based on the comparisons of the old and new textbooks in the guiding ideology, system structure, teaching content, exercises, knowledge point layout and space vector and by adopting such methods as documentary review, comparison, questionnaire, interview and statistics, this paper draws the following conclusions.1.The new textbooks based on the curriculum pay more attention to student, especially the development of students' personality in an all-round way.2.In the arrangement of knowledge points, the new textbooks have followed the order“whole-part-whole” while the old ones have followed the order” part-whole”.3.Exercises in the new textbooks are based more closely on our life.Meanwhile, there are more objective questions and inquiring exercises.4.Solid geometry part in the new textbooks places more emphasis on visual geometric teaching while the old textbook pays more attention to deductive reasoning geometry teaching.5.The new textbooks pay less attention on the application of solid geometry synthesis and vector methods are adopted more frequently, which have some effects on students' abilities of space imagination and logical thinking. At the end of the paper, some constructive suggestions on both textbook are put forward.
