| The definition of appropriate school size is,according to the existing buildings,equipment and funding conditions,under the premise of ensuring a certain quality of education,in the present school development situation of economy of scale(i.e.the per student cost decreased gradually),the proper number of classes and students.It has been shown that due to the fact that the giant high school students scale is too large,far more than the moderate scale,which leads to the result that high quality education resources are “diluted”by a large number of students as well as school running costs surge,followed the decline of students’ learning performance,thus affected the running benefit.Nevertheless,a preliminary investigation found that the development of poor county giant high school has shown a good trend,the average student cost did not increase with the size of the school expansion,showing high levels of resource utilization efficiency;the educational resources equipped meet the needs of students’ development preferably and the school enrollment rate grows steadily;it effectively improves the level of education of the local high school and school effectiveness.From this point of view,the size of the poor county high school still shows a moderate situation.According to the research hypothesis,although the number of students in the county is huge,the size of the school is still in the appropriate range.To test this hypothesis,the essay has selected the middle school of national poverty county——P County of Chongqing Y as a case,making the education quality and per student cost as research variables,adopting case study method,survey method,literature method,observation method as well as in-depth investigation of the giant school in impoverished county,to judge whether the existing large scale is appropriate and whether it’s really conducive to the development of students.The study found that the scale of more than 7000 students in the middle school Y in P county is still in the moderate scale,which is that the per student cost continues to decline with the school scale expansion,and the quality of education could grow further.There are hidden dangers and potential crisis in the process of giant high school:First,the overall quality level is low,which limits students’ development;Second,overload working accelerates the loss of excellent teachers;Third,it causes invisible injury to students that classifies students merely by their scores;Fourth,the scale of the school fee increases caused by expansion,making education activities easily evolved into the market behavior of fame.To solve the above problems,education departments and schools should not only be combined with the demand in the present stage of high school education in the areas,together with scientific and reasonable structure of the planning and development of education in the high school period,and the school scale expansion,but also adhere to the basic principles of the connotative and extensive develop scale simultaneously,paying attention to the all-round development of students,to provide a platform for the cultivation and development of students’ comprehensive ability,and achieve the goal of "further study" and "educating people".There are four specific ideas: first,adjust the structure and layout of high school education in poor areas,and actively develop vocational schools;the second is to improve the quality of school education,establishing the concept of comprehensive development of the overall quality of students and seek the best appropriate scale of development;third,strengthen the professional training of teachers,improving the quality of teachers in all aspects,and building a professional teaching community;fourth,make full use of a large number of advantages,establishing a scientific and systematic management system and innovative school organizational structure. |
