With the development of globalization,more and more students go abroad to study.For many Southeast Asian students,China is a good choice for both historical and realistic reasons.As is known to all,students who study abroad will be faced with a series of challenges in their lifetime,which will affect them socially,culturally and psychologically.To some extent,the changes at the socio-cultural level may seem to be more obvious and visible,while the psychological fluctuation will be undetectable;unnoticed for researchers in the area of intercultural communication.The present study was conducted to investigate the psychological adaptation of Southeast Asian students who study in China;those who constructed the theoretical model and developed a scale of psychological adaptation of.By means of archival research,some research results were concluded:1.Based on stress-coping model developed by Berry,I constructed the theoretical model,which included 2 stages of the adaptation process and 5 dimensions.The first stage is before Southeastern Asian students' arrival in China.And the second stage is about all the process they would experience after the transition of culture.2.A scale was designed to conduct this investigation,including the following dimensions: acculturation potentials(including personalities,cultural values and perceived cultural distance),acculturation attitudes(containing the attitudes toward their culture of origin and toward the culture of China),stressors(including social,familial,academic,and linguistic aspects),social support(including the support from relatives,friends,teachers and other important people)and psychological adaptation outcomes(in terms of somatization,emotions and cognitive function).The psychological adaptation of foreign students is still a field that has not yet been fully researched,and more research was needed.The theoretical model and the scale developed in the research will be preparation for more in-depth research in South-East Asia in the future students psychological adaptation,which provides a theoretical foundation and reference tools.
